Audio balance randomly changes - AppleALC 1.7.1

I'm using AppleALC 1.7.1 on the Asus Prime Z370-A motherboard. It is working largely well, however, it randomly every so often (maybe once an hour?) just slightly shifts the balance so the sound suddenly comes more towards the right, then back to wards the left. It also sometimes (every few hours?) suddenly plays some quiet static/distortion for a few seconds. Any ideas what could be causing this?
