Have finally got ATI Firepro v5800 working in Snow Leopard 10.6.8

All resolutions available , ( connected via dvi ) , system profiler showing both display ports also , full acceleration QE/CI enabled , front row working.
Fan running normal and quiet.

My system includes Gigabyte Ga Z68x ud3p Mobo and i5 2500k .

Clean install using iboot legacy and retail snow leopard 10.6.3
Then copy 10.6.8 combo update,f4 dsdt ,multibeast, updatehelper ,textwrangler to desktop.
Run updatehelper and reboot
Open multibeast , install 10.6.8 combo and minimise after install.
Run multibeast .... user dsdt,system utilities,audio> alc8xx..., apple hda...,disk>ioachi...,network>realtek...,bootloader>chimera,bootoptions> 64bit graphics enabler=no,system definitions>mac3.1
reboot

Open system profiler and check graphics device id ( firepro v5800 = 0x68a9 )
' note the lowercase a '

Add this device id 0x68a91002 to both ati5000controller.kext and ati3000x.kext
( I edited in place with textwrangler )

re run Multibeast ,system utilities
reboot

Now you should have all resolutions available and full acceleration.

Hope this is of help to someone!

Following on from the above method , I decided to see if it was possible to at the ati firepro card to my existing setup without having to reinstall snow leopard.

Existing build was setup from scratch with hardware as above but with a quadro fx 570 graphics card
using iboot + multibeast and f4 dsdt.
Fully functional on 10.6.8 including all apple updates and linksys usb wireless .
First boot into original setup.
Add device id's as above.
Run multibeast ,system utilities,bootloader>chimera,bootoptions> 64bit graphics enabler=no
Turn off system.
Remove quadro card and install ati firepro v5800 card.
Reboot.
Again everything working.

I have simliar config as you.
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3-3B with Firepro v4800 display card.

However, I could not able to install it propertly.
Now, my network and sound is ok but only missing display card.
I use multibeast, DSDT, system utilities, bootloader 64bit graphicsenabler=no
I have use Kentbeast to patch ATI5000controller.kext and edit the 0x68c8 but no luck
I checked the display and it showed No Kext Loaded.
Do you any suggestion?

I would restore the system files to what you had before patching.
Then check your graphics device id in system profiler.

Add this device id to both ati5000controller.kext and ati3000x.kext

#Make sure you run multibeast / system utilities after any changes before reboot.

If it still doesn't work you could try adding the device id from my V5800 card.

I'm thinking of getting a v5900. Do you think I would be able to get that to work too?

Hi,
Noob here I don't see anything in text wrangler that says DiviceID

i have a firepro 5950M with a deviceID 6740
so i put into ATI5000controller/contents/info.plist -0x67401002
ran kext wizard
reboot

system hangs during boot with a kernel panik,
so reboot again
successful booted, but still on 1024x768
:banghead:

any ideas?

@ shiphtfour .... v5900 is basically a v5800 but with 2gb memory instead of 1gb so I would say prospects are good.

@ craig2010 .... Open system profiler from mac desktop and check graphics device id ( the id will depend on the card you have installed )
You then need to add this device id to ati5000controller.kext and ati3000x.kext
Text wrangler will allow you to edit these kext's and save the changes.
If you follow my earlier post you should get there.

@ blendstylez ... I'd make sure you can boot without any errors first so reset any kext edits to original.
After system is booting properly confirm your device id from system profiler.
Modify the kexts as I've done and make sure you run multibeast / system utilities after any changes before reboot
(worth confirming that your kext edits have been saved before you run multibeast)
If your still having problems you could try a different device id , one from a close cousin of your card?
