I am quite close to success on Lion for my ATI Firepro V4800 card.

My card has 2 display port and 1 DVI port

I installed 10.7.1 and connect the monitor to a display port.
When I boot it from Chimera, it show a word on left top corner "Unsupported card"
Then I only could use 1024x768 with "no kext loaded" on my Graphics/Display from System Profiler.

Then read the forum many times, I tried to add my Device ID in ATI5000Controller.kext then run the MultiBeast - System Utilities.

Then it still has "Unsupported card" but black screen.
When I see the hard disk light, it is running and I try to use a VGA cable connect to the DVI port, it shows perfect for me.
I can use DVI port connect to VGA input of my monitor with full resolution but I cannot use display port or DVI port connect to the monitor screen (Black screen).

I have tried to use AtiPorts=3 but it does not work.

I did not change any framebuffer on the above testing.

I have not used this card myself but I would recommend trying all the different frame buffers and record your results for each one. You may find one that fixes all your ports and works great with the card.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I found that if I don't add any AtiConfig=xxxxx then the frame buffer as the followingTong-Jackys-Mac-Pro:~ tongjacky$ ioreg | grep ATY
| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@0 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$
| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@1 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$
| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@2 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$

I tried Baboon and Uakari, it is not working even using VGA.
Using Duckweed and Vervet is same as above.

How can I know which frame buffer is correct?

I tried all the following frame buffer (AtiConfig=xxx -v) before loading

Alopias Alouatta Baboon Cardinal Caretta Colobus Douc Eulemur Flicker Galag Gliff Hoolock Hypoprion Iago Kakapo Kipunji Lamna Langur Megalodon Motmot Nomascus Orangutan Peregrine Quail Raven Shrike Sphyrna Triakis Uakari Vervet Zonalis

I still not success to get a right frame buffer
I tried GraphicsEnabler=No but still no luck
If my GraphicEnabler=Yes, it will show "Unsupported Card"
But anyway, I could boot it in VGA but not display port or DVI

When I open DVD player, it crash, so that I am sure the frame buffer is not correct but I don't know what can I try now.

I read the post that there is ATI.c, is that I can add my device id in it?
Where is the ATI.c? I could not find it in /Extra?

Last night I use my VGA to boot up the Lion, I try to unplug the VGA and change it to DVI and it work.

But if I just use DVI to boot up the Lion, it is black screen then I have to plug in the Display port (sure the display port has nothing) and unplug the display port then the DVI will come up the screen.

The above config I have tried Baboon, Uakari and Duckweed,
but running ioreg | grep ATY
still come up with the RadeonFramebuffer

Firepro V4800 has already been added to ATI.c after I requested for adding device ID to Azimuts in forum.voodooprojects.org.
The message "Unsupported card" means that you are not using correct framebuffer for the graphics controller.

The name, number of output and kind of output of framebuffers is as follows.(only for HD5XXX series, because V4800 is identical to HD5670.)

{"Colobus", 2}, // 5000 - lvds, dp
{"Douc", 2}, // 5000 - lvds, dp
{"Eulemur", 3}, // 5000 - dvi-i dl, hdmi, vga
{"Galago", 2}, // 5000 - lvds, dp
{"Hoolock", 3}, // 5000 - dp, dp, dvi-i dl
{"Langur", 3}, // 5000 - dp, dp, dvi-i dl
{"Nomascus", 5}, // 5000 - lvds, lvds, dp, dp
{"Orangutan", 2}, // 5000 - lvds, dp
{"Uakari", 4}, // 5000 - dp, dvi-i dl, dvi-i sl, hdmi
{"Vervet", 4}, // 5000 - dp, dvi-i dl, dvi-i sl, hdmi
{"Alouatta", 4}, // 5000 - lvds, dp, dp, dp
{"Baboon", 3}, // 5000 - dvi-i dl, hdmi, vga
{"Zonalis", 6}, // 5000 - dp, dp, dp, dp, dp, dp
{"Mangabey", 2}, // 5000 - lvds, dp

As you can see, the framebuffer that has two displayport and one dl-dvi output is "Hoolock" and "Langur".
You'd better try these framebuffers.

One more thing, displayport output is blocked in 10.6.8 and Lion with unknown reason.
You can use only HDMI or DVI port in 10.6.8.
Easiest way to use displayport output is that you use Radeon kexts of 10.6.7.
You can get these files in kexts.com

Thanks ophtha72! I wait for someone to answer for few weeks.
Is that I have to replace all Radeon kexts to 10.6.7 version?
Anyway, I will try to use DVI in Lion with existing kexts first.

Today, I tried Hoolock and Langur by using DVI with GraphicsEnabler=Yes but I still get "unsupported card" and then black screen.

Is that I should change all kext to 10.6.7 version?

Last two days, I have upgrade to 7.0.2 and also using Multibest 4.1.0.

Now, I can use my Displayport and VGA port together.

However, I go the right display card information in the system report.

But I still could not use DVD player.

I am using GraphicEnabler=Yes but still get

| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@0 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$
| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@1 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$
| | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@2 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
| | | | | +-o ATY_ATY,RadeonFramebuffer <class ATIFramebuffer, id 0x10$

I think my framebuffer is not correct but there is still Unsupported card. Is that I have missing sometime.

This is what I get when typing

bdmesg

Using PCI-Root-UID value: 1
Unsupported ATI card! Device ID: [1002:68c8] Subsystem ID: [240a1002]
