I built a new main rig (Ubuntu 18.04) but kept the old rig since it doesn't really have any resale value. I figured it would be useful for diagnosing issues with components like graphics cards.
Recently I started a tutorial on building mobile apps with React Native but found I had no way to run the iOS simulator. So that's when I wondered if I could build a Hackintosh...
Following the guides on this site I installed Snow Leopard followed by El Capitan. From there I made the jump to Mojave.
I struggled at lot to get the Display Port working - in the end I found out it works reliably so long as I have a monitor plugged into the DVI port as well.
Installation notes
I followed the Mojave build guide on this site using the Toshiba 16 GB USB stick.
The SSD drive is plugged into a gray SATA3 Intel port, not a navy blue ASMedia port or white SATA2 port.
The keyboard and mouse are plugged into USB 2 ports.
The monitor is plugged in using the DVI (motherboard) to HDMI cable.

. Plugged 3.5mm cable into green line-out port

Keyboard

What Works
The 1440p monitor only works at full resolution using the Display Port. And the Display Port only works if I'm also using the DVI port!
Power saving mode activates for both monitors.
System sleep works.
The WiFi seems to be rock solid.
The audio is loud and clear.
All the USB ports including ASMedia and front panel appear to be active though I haven't tried all of them. I do have doubts that any of them are running at USB 3 speed though but it isn't something I care about.
I placed a DVD Video in the Blu-ray drive and it started to play automatically.
What Does Not Work
The Display Port by itself. Maybe once in 20 boots it will activate, but mostly I just get a black screen.
The HDMI port also doesn't work. On this motherboard it isn't capable of anything better than the DVI port so I didn't invest any time in this. I suspect it might work if I force the resolution to be 1920 x 1080.
