same here. Stuck on 10.6.2 (

I have a 8600GT (it's a Gigabyte 256MB though) working perfectly (QE/CI, dual monitor) in 10.6.5 using a DSDT mod (see my other thread for details). It also worked great with NVEnabler. I never tried EFI strings.

I have a Palit 512MB 8600GT and it works fine just using GraphicsEnabler in 10.6.5

Guys, you said that it works for you in 10.6.5, did you try to use dvi->hdmi cable?
It works for me only through VGA.

Yep, that's exactly how I use it. :)
Right now I'm running off a modded DSDT (courtesy of intamara), but before that I tried GraphicsEnabler=Yes in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist and it worked all right.

Thank you for reply. Today I've tried the GraphicsEnabler=yes way with 10.6.5. And it doesn't work.
I want to try DSDT way, but I'm not strong with it. Can I just try to compile DSDT from here viewtopic.php?p=55103#p55103 and try to use it with my system?

Not really. I have the 8600GT in second slot, I have 256MB memory instead of 512 and my card is made by Gigabyte, not Asus, so the NVCAP might be different as well. If you wanted to go the DSDT route with a single card, you'd be better off with Tony's guide:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/01/ ... phics.html

Nevertheless, it's weird that it doesn't work simply with GraphicsEnabler=yes. You have deleted the EFI strings and NVEnabler/NVInject kexts and repaired the permissions/rebuilt the cache*?

*) Please note that I'm a noob here and I'm guessing rather than really know what I'm talking about.

my card is MSI NX8600GT T2D256E, it has 256MB memory. May be it is different..
This is what I did:
1. I've edited /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist:
Code:
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
	<string>Yes</string>
2. Deleted NVEnabler.kext
3. Fixed permissions with Kext Utility
result:
system boots only when Display connected via VGA. When try to use dvi->hdmi cable - system boots, but I get black screen.
This is what System Profilier says:
