Are you using your Z77 board in your profile or newer hardware? Newer hardware from Z170 onwards needs an additional step.....
There is lots of info to check in the graphics section, suggest using 1080P resolution, watch out with attempting 4k on HDMI 2 as macOS doesn't support this yet.

I am using the GA-Z77X-UD3H rev:1.2 (El Capitan worked great on it) the only thing I upgraded was the Asus Strix Gaming card Geforce GTX 1080.
I have a tripple monotor setup that worked fine on my previous card. (1 dvi 2 hdmi)
I can't get this card to be recognised for some reason.

( p.s. started over and am now facing problem in pre installation. I'm gonna try a Sierra install see if that helps)

Your GPU requires additional graphics drivers to work. I would use a single 1080P screen for installation if possible to make life easier. Ultrawide and multiple screens can cause havoc for installation.

Are you aware of a new procedure to get the drivers running and your card recognised has been updated since El Capitan:
