Apple Releases 10.11.0 Darwin Source


As part of Apple's continual commitment to Open Source, they've released the source code of the underpinnings of OS X 10.11 El Capitan, ie Darwin 10.11.0. This includes the xnu-3247.1.106 kernel.

If you're interested in the way things work, feel free to poke around, download all of the files, and build your own versions using Xcode.

What does this mean for the hackintosh community?

Will any developers be using this information to build 3rd party support for 3rd party USB 3.0 controllers like VIA or Renesas? I'm concerned about the progress of this situation.

This should buy Apple more trust (at least from me), for some degree of transparency, compared to the recent aggressive spy apps from M$'s w10.

What does this mean for the hackintosh community?

Nothing in particular. It's Apple living up to it's obligation in using open source material. essentially making the changes it made to the open source part of the OS public.

For those folks who work with Darwin.. it's a big deal.
