Apple to Reinvent the Television

Looks like the new Apple TV will be much more than just Apple's version of the Roku. They are
setting out to completely change that 20th century invention, the TV, the same way they have revolutionized how we use the telephone. The Apple TV that will be revealed in San Francisco on
the 9th will be only the beginning of Apple taking TV seriously instead of just calling it a hobby.

Once the Apple Smart TV panel arrives (don't think it will be here in 2015) it will make all the other
Smart TVs on the market look rather dumb. If you just want to use your old 1080p TV connected to
your gen 4 Apple TV box that will work as well. But most Apple fans will want to have a Smart TV
panel once they hit the stores. (maybe in Summer or Fall 2016 ?)

Apple (AAPL) is normally known for providing a platform for content distribution. But now, the tech giant is exploring the idea of creating original content to challenge the likes of Netflix (NFLX), Amazon (AMZN), and Hulu. The iPhone maker is talking to Hollywood executives about producing shows just for Apple, according to Variety. With the new version of the Apple TV hardware expected to be unveiled next week, S&P Capital IQ analyst Angelo Zino says this could be a big positive for the biggest company in the world. He thinks that the company plans to focus on the hardware side of the business and evolve into selling actual TV systems. Having original content offerings would definitely be a big positive, according to Zino. He says the industry is evolving today, and we can see a shift in consumers looking for TV offerings via video and online. TheStreet's Kurumi Fukushima reports in New York.

Will we eventually see 42 & 55 inch 4K Apple TV panels made out of brushed aluminum ?

I think so. Now that we have chips that can run very cool without a need for fans and SSD storage that
is much more affordable it is fairly easy to make a flatscreen TV that can serve as a media computer as well. It won't have a CPU as fast or the amount of ram and storage a 5K iMac does. That will help to keep the prices more reasonable so that at least middle and upper class consumers could put one in their living room to replace their current 1080p Sony, Samsung or Vizio set. If you look at the onboard graphics specs of the new Skylake CPUs you'll see that you can power two 4K displays from the onboard graphics. So running a single 42 or 55 inch TV off of the onboard Intel graphics would be very easy.

What I may be wrong about here is related to the new OLED technology. These displays have the best contrast ratios of any display ever and can be made flexible and as thin as a credit card. This makes wall
mounting super easy. Shipping these will also be infinitely easier as they are much lighter and it's harder to damage them in shipping. If Apple were to choose this tech from LG or Samsung none of the PC internals would actually be inside of the monitor the way they are in the 2015 iMacs.

If the prices of these OLED panels were to become competitive with the current LED/LCD 4K screens now available, then I'm certain that Jony Ive, who is obsessed with making everything thinner, would choose OLED. That day is not here yet so I believe that the first Apple Smart TV panels will be conventional LED backlit 4K TV monitors.

How much will one of these Set me back ?

Will these new Apple Smart TVs compete in price with the current UHD sets on the market now? They probably won't sell in the 4-600 dollar range where you can find many UHD smart TVs for sale today. They might start at $999 for the 42 inch and $1,299 for the 55 inch. Those are conservative estimates and the prices will likely be higher than that when Apple actually starts selling a television. Takes a lot of AL to make a 55" panel. Black shiny plastic just won't cut it for an Apple TV panel. These will be made to last a long time.

Once Apple partners start producing 4K content in Hollywood you can be certain it will be absolutely
stunning on an Apple TV Panel. No upscaling necessary. There will be an App store just for Apple TV
where you can buy the content. The only thing in the chain you'll have to provide is a fast internet
connection to stream the 4K content to your home. Something like Verizon FIOS would be perfect
for this.

I predict that the Apple Smart TV set will become the central hub of the smart home of the 21st century. The Apple TV that Tim Cook will show us on September 9th already has Home Kit automation software. If you're already in the Apple ecosystem with a phone, tablet or laptop it just makes sense to have your main television work seamlessly with all of your other tech gadgets connected to your home's wireless network. So, sitting in your living room, watching online content you will be able to control your home's lighting and temperature, lock or open doors and even see who is on the front porch ringing your doorbell. You'll be able to even check the charge level of your Apple Car sitting in your garage right from the TV screen. Just say "Hey Siri, is my Car charged yet ?" and you'll get your response. ;) How cool is that ?

Wonder if they are going to release 5k displays (that have appleTV built into them).

Also hoping they come out with skylake support!

Spoiler Alert ! If you don't want to know about the changes to the iPhone 6s before the 9th,
do not read this post.

Here's just about everything that is already known about the new iPhone 6s.
Finally, it gets 2GB of ram, a 12 MP camera an A9 processor and double
the 4G LTE download speeds. See this article for all the details.

And for those wondering, yes, a bend-proof rose gold version that matches
the Apple watch.
