I just saw this shareware program Slink? It appears to extend your home network to a Mac outside your home network.
Slink is the easy and secure way to remotely connect to your home network.

All shared services on your home network automatically appear in the Finder, iTunes, iPhoto, and other applications, just as they do at home. With Slink you are always connected to your home network.
I think Slink is a GUI "wrapper" around some Linux (or whatever flavor UNIX) commands.

Any insights to either Slink or the doing it in the Terminal with SSH would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am the developer of Slink and happy to answer any questions.

Slink is indeed based on SSH for its encrypted transport. However, Slink is not based on the Terminal in any way, nor is it a wrapper. It is a full VPN app that allows you to access your home network just as if your remote Mac was directly connected to your home network. All the Bonjour shares that you see while connected to your home network will be available when you are remote.

Suggest you try the 14-day demo, and e-mail me if you have any questions or issues.
