What camera does your laptop have?

Here is my info from USB section of System Information:
Code:
HP HD Webcam [Fixed]:

  Product ID:	0xb370
Vendor ID:	0x04f2 (Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd.)
  Version:	51.70
  Serial Number:	SN0001

  Manufacturer:	Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd.
  Location ID:	0x1a130000 / 4
  Current Available (mA):	500
  Current Required (mA):	500

My camera is working in the scenarios you describe.

Did you mean? this is my screen shot.

The only thing we can do is derive a pattern... We will see if more people reply...

As you can see my Chicony works, your Sunplus does not. Location id is slightly different (/3 vs. /4) No serial# for yours.

You could look around and see if you can find a camera just like mine (vendor/device-id match) and replace the camera you have with that one...

FYI: Copy paste works, no need for screen shot here.

Interesting, I think location is the key. Mine is same model on 4440s, but diff Location ID: 0x1a130000 / 3 and it needs 3rd party app to "wake" it.

Mine works without any 3rd app:

For some reason mine does not show serial number, so is the other unfortunate web cam info. Interesting, so it may be specific batch/firmware related.

Also, the product is different though:
Product ID: 0xb372 - CM
Product ID: 0xb370 - RM

What is interesting as well:

Booting with Clover:
Location ID: 0x1a130000 / 4
Booting with Chameleon:
Location ID: 0x1a130000 / 3

This is from 4540s with working webcam. In both cases Serial Number is listed on working cams.

I am planning on trying other 4440s used webcams to sort this out...

Success, 2 out of 3 used cams from ebay worked. One was working perfectly (from 4440s), another one was a bit dark, gets brighter with help of 3rd party app (from 4530s) and the 3rd one was exactly as my own (from 4440s) and needed 3rd party app to activate.

Anyway, below is the winner (came from other beat up 4440s):
HP HD Webcam [Fixed]:

Product ID: 0x2c2a
Vendor ID: 0x1bcf (Sunplus Innovation Technology Inc.)
Version: 24.02
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: DDEJL01BI3P7BG
Location ID: 0x1a130000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500

The fact is - it is a function of the web cam vendor/firmware, not the laptop internals or model.

Nice investigation there!

My third party camera is now pixelated after upgrading to Mavericks. What could the issue be? Is it a single kext file? or can I download an update?
