Well, I've been doing a lot of reading and I still can't find proof that there is a tweakable bios here. I mean, obviously it has one and the management engine is disabled. There's some jumper inside to disable read-only on the firmware. I suspect flipping that will allow me to do what I'm trying to do. Then again, I'd be breaking the warranty seal... And I still don't know if I like the machine in general, kind of flimsy and the screen quality pretty terrible. Thinking of returning it.

Typical of Chromebooks. Inexpensive and the build-quality matches the price.

If anyone's still trying this out on the Core i3 C720 (only have the Celeron on here), MattDevo's coreboot enables the MEI so that should fix the graphics not working: https://github.com/MattDevo/coreboot/commit/de8075043b0fa0e0f2b312d4bd23e1db24a5a40b

A new SeaBIOS payload does fix graphics on my C720 with an i3: translucent menu bar in Mavericks. Everything works better with a SeaBIOS more recent than 121814 (and then re-dumping and patching ACPI tables). Start with that if you've had problems.
