Planning to buy a 64 GB SSD for OS X system drive. Aiming to install FCP 7 and Da Vinci Resolve, mainly on this SSD to get speedy app operation, too. Will this suffice, or do I need a larger SSD? Can I install the rest of my apps on the larger 500GB/7200rpm drive that I use for data? Thanks for the help, friends!

I would not recommend it, OSX software is generally fairly chunky and you will want to keep your project/working files on the SSD as well for speedy operation. You will definitely regret not buying at least a 120GB SSD.

Agreed. OSX itself is pretty slim, only about 6 gigs or so on a fresh install, but apps can be big. My server runs on a 64 gig drive, but it doesn't run anything but iTunes. 120 is the minimum I feel as well.

I am using a 512Gb for my primary system drive and it is at half capacity already with all of my pro apps installed such as FCP7, FCPX, Adobe, etc.

I would go as big as you can afford.
