The 5930K is 6 core for the new X99 platform boards. 6 core is all that is available at this time and there are already some early adopters who have made X99 builds.

4790K is 4 core for Z87/Z97 platforms

The main question to ask is why you want to upgrade to 6-core?

An OC'ed 2600K won't have any trouble pushing the top GPUs available, probably even two of them in SLI/CF. If this is for day-to-day use or gaming, you'd be far better off buying a top of the line GPU rather than spending double that for a new Mobo and CPU (not to mention RAM if you go to a system that requires DDR4).

There are definite benefits going to 6 cores/12 threads if you're doing video editing or compression, although depending on the program much of this can be picked up by GPU too.
