I have a fully working installation except for this little issue.

I have two 2GB sticks of ram installed, and the system seems to detect both of them (albeit at slightly the wrong MHz,) but only ever uses 2GB of the available 4GB.

Any idea what might be going on here, or how to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

Re: 4GB RAM detected, only 2GB available?

Used RAM: Well, try running some RAM demanding app...

RAM speed: I think I read somewhere that this is only cosmetic, i. e. displayed wrong but used at correct speed.

The incorrect MHz display really doesn't bother me, so I don't mind.

So I opened up a bunch of graphic programs with some massive images, and sure enough; my RAM maxed out. Everything got delightfully sluggish. It's quite clear that only 2GBs are being used.

Anyone got ideas?

I tried running in 64 bit mode, to see if maybe it would fix something. But nope. Still coasting along on 2GBs of RAM.

Have you had any other OS's on this machine? and how much RAM was being reported.

If you haven't tried any other OS download a live linux distro and see what that says. also as mentioned above check the RAM is installed in the correct slots.

 I'm an idiot.

A stick was slightly out of the socket. Thanks for the faceslap reminder and the help, guys.
