long story less long, I had the same audio issues many others were having. rolled the dice on this soundblaster card and I have clear audio. it may not be suitable for watching Transformers 3 in 7.1, but I now have a perfectly (acceptable) working machine.

Perhaps I'll get it working with a kext in the future, but for now I'm rather consumed with fcpx and the such ...

my only problems are "shut down" still reboots and I'm indicating 4gbs of ram ..

$30!?!? Ridiculous! Go to eBay! Don't spend over ONE DOLLAR!

C'mon! $30! That's insane.

Go to eBay. They have tons of USB Audio plug-ins!
None of them are priced above a dollar.

I've discovered that the ones labeled 7.1 audio are better
than the ones labeled 5.1 audio - but all of them work fine.

The key difference between them is the INPUT quality:
The 5.1 plug-ins have only 24000.0 Hz input
while the 7.1 plugins have 48000.0 Hz input.

These USB Audio plug-ins are VERY handy to have around,
especially while you're working out your Kext and DSDT situation.

Don't send people out to spend $30+ on something
they can have for under $1 - give people useful advice please.

This is the USB 5.1 Audio USB plug-in, often labeled "3D Audio".
Avoid this one as the better one
below is the same price exactly.

This one is boxier and uglier but better.
Note it also has volume controls on it
that Mac OS X respects and uses!
