2012 Customac Mini Build...fresh install to sierra?

I have the 2012 Customac Mini Build except I replaced my hard drive with the Corsair MX300 275 GB

Intel Core i3-3225
Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI
2x4GB Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
275GB Corsair MX 300

What's the best way to get to OS Sierra? Do a fresh install? Or start from a different OS and upgrade?

I have an SSD and HD installed on mine. I 3 partions on my HD. I backed up my old OS using a Carbon Copy Cloner, then did a clean install of Sierra to the SSD. Once I had a bootable start up disk, I did a backup of Sierra to my SSD. I needed the Sierra backup back through some trial and error, I would break my newly installed OS on the SDD when I used Multibeast.
