1st Hackintosh - Final Cut Pro X & CS6 Advice

Not open for further replies.
Hi guys,

Just jumping in here! I noticed the nvidia geforce 9800GT being mentioned in this thread...that's the card I currently have (1gb version). It sounds like you are saying that this WILL work with Final Cut Pro X...is that right? That would be great, because then I wouldn't have to spend money on another card...

So, I can use this card with FCX?

Jumping in also.

Can someone please advise on the BEST card to get for speeding up Final Cut Pro X timeline rendering.

I'm using 5K footage that's all, in the new 10.0.6.

I have a GT 640 currently with 2GB ram. It's slow, when adding in Magic Bullet Looks or other plugins as effects etc.

For a 4 minute clip it's taking days, and it's also freezing up and crashing quite often.

I have 64GB Ram and a 3930K CPU - very fast otherwise. Running 10.8.2, GraphicsEnabler=No

The Great thing happens when the FCPX 10.0.6 out that is , in final cut pro history, now utilise GPU power to render ur time line. That means best perfomed GPU like GTX 680.670and other give a dramatic performance boost in your FCPx workflows. I give importance to Nvidia Cards because . Apple give native support to nvidia with Mountain Lion.

Thanks for your reply! That's what I wanted to hear. So you know directly that these cards will make FCPX faster? I ask because Apple has an outdated list of supported graphics cards but I don't want to get any of them, for obvious reasons.

So these cards will work nice with OpenCL and FCPX etc...?

I just hadn't heard anyone talking about them boosting FCPX speeds. Yes, very happy that the GPU is now used to help!

Thank you

And further - which card is the absolute BEST that will be supported by FCPX?

reason i ask is that in a luxmark benchmark, the gtx 680 performs very poorly when compared to a radeon HD 7970 or 7870. This is OpenCL testing - and FCPX I believe uses OpenCL, right?

My GT 640 gets a score of 127 in the room test, the 680 apparently gets 283. But the Radeon 7970 gets 1010. That's a huge increase. If that was something that translated to FCPX rendering, that makes this card almost 10 times as fast vs only getting about twice the speed.

Do Radeon 7970's work with hacks?

My specs are:

Gigabyte x79-up4, with 3930K i7. 64GB Geil evo corsa, 512GB SSD and 12TB Raid running at 400/600MB/sec respectively.

getting about 10 in Cinebench for CPU. You can see my only bottleneck left is GPU...

Any advice is most appreciated. Thank you again.

I never made a Luxmark test until now and it gives me a score of 1210 , i'm not being able to get to the site to confirm the results but Cinebench gives me scores between 49 and 51 in GPU. I'm using a overclocked MSI GTX670.

I am using GTX 560( non TI) i can get GPU acceleration to render effects and transition on time line in FCPX and noticeable increase in speed never before. I am pointing towards Nvidia card because In mountain Lion APPLE again fall back to Nvidia series New Nvidia cards get native support (Full acceleration without complicated tweaks) that means if they decided to use Nvidia cards they should get use the CUDA power and if you are a serious Adobe user better Nvidia cards i get this with GTX560 (non ti) higher performance card like GTX 670 give better result.

Are you finally able to build it? Also hows your experience going on with FCP on this machine? Can you post the final configuration please? I am trying to build for similar purpose.

Thanks a Lot,
M

Hello Everyone,

I'm planning to build my first Hackintosh. It will be mainly be used for FCPX and a little bit of CS6. It will not be used for any gaming. I recently got married on a destination wedding have tons of 1080p footage that I would like to edit. My 13'' i5 Macbook Pro ain't cutting. I want a machine that is stable and can run FCPX well. Below are the parts I think might be good. If any of the components seem to be overkill please let me know. Does anyone think a CPU cooler is necessary? If so which one? I was going to go with the GeForce GTX 660 Ti but I am reading some posts saying FCPX would crash.

If anyone has suggestions or comments it would be greatly appreciated.

Something is not right. I am getting 1430's all day long with my Geforce GTX MSI 680 Lightning vid card.
