This week at Computex, manufacturers showed off preproduction versions of some Z170 and H170 motherboards. These boards will be available this fall and feature Intel's new 100 Series chipset.

All Socket LGA 1151 motherboards will pair with Intel's upcoming 6th Generation 'Skylake' CPUs. Highlights of the new chipset include DDR4 memory support up to 64GB, USB 3.1 Type-C, and the inclusion of Thunderbolt 3 on some models.

We've posted the best pictures we could find, and partial motherboard lineups. More information will be upcoming, as Intel has not set an actual launch date yet for Skylake.

Keep in mind as well that Apple needs to launch a Mac with 100 Series before any support will be available.

z97 boards support os x better than z87, am I right ?

About the same- they're both Haswell Socket LGA 1150. 9 Series is the current chipset. As I said the upcoming 100 Series stuff won't be compatible until Apple makes a Mac with it.

What's the best bet on Apple making something w/ 100 Series stuff?

New iMac's probably?

iMacs and MacBook Pros seem likely for the late fall featuring new Skylake CPUs.

What will Skylake mean for LGA 2011-3 // X99 ? This article seems to indicate that ASUS X99-E WS can support skylake CPU's. Article calls next iteration of LGA 2011-3 "LGA 2017-A" unofficially, and says it has 6 extra pins.

Has anyone used the ASUS X99-E WS board for a CustoMac Pro Socket 2011 build? About to sell my UD5 x79 rig (love this rig to death!!!), and update to X99 in order to get the M.2 samsung SM951 bootable.

Thanks in advanced!

6th Generation Skylake CPUs will only fit these new 100 Series boards and the new LGA 1151 socket.

LGA 2011-3 will not fit Skylake CPUs. It's unclear if there will be a new socket design to replace the X99 platform for the next 'extreme' CPUs based on Broadwell-E or Skylake-E sometime in 2016.

Then it's a bad new for hackintosh community :banghead:

Rumors are that Da Fruit will release new iMacs with Skylake hardware in September.

Not sure if I can wait that long . . .
