Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

Well something had to have changed on the hardware side to suddenly be recognized in newer versions. That doesn't just happen willy-nilly on its own or else the originals would work OOB too. And there's still no way to tell whether you're getting a revised model or an original model until you've...

Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

Well, since the Apple kext family looks for a specific vendor/ID, how much you want to bet that's what changed? It sure wasn't the controller. It either changed on Apple's end or on the hardware end. Probably the latter if they figured out the flashing process and how to properly set it up on...

Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

Yeah, not keen on the Sonnet one. I could get the Synology if I'm desperate, but at $139 it isn't exactly el cheapo. Problem with the ASUS one is that you can't guarantee getting a newer version. How would you check prior to unpacking it anyway? I'm curious what changes ASUS made, and if they...

Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

That'd be nice...if I could find one. The only two OOB capable cards are the Syba and Aquantia/Marvell AQtion Gaming NICs (the latter being the black PCB one, not the green one). Neither are in stock anywhere other than eBay, where buying anything computer related is sketchy at best. :(

Gigabyte's Z490 Motherboard Lineup Shows Up Early

Only 2.5G on the Intel side for the NIC? Lame. I kind of wish I could have afforded the Z390 AORUS Extreme, since it has an Aquantia 10 GbE port on it, presumably natively supported in OS X as it is almost certainly using the AQC-107 controller. Sadly I can't find the NIC PCIe card itself from...

Apple Unveils Redesigned Mac Pro Desktop and Pro Display XDR at WWDC

Not sure if anybody thought about this, but unless the Cascade Lake Xeons have changed enough in architecture from the previous Coffe Lake series, when outfitting the computer with RAM in every slot, the DIMM speeds are brought down to 800 MHz with only one CPU controlling them. Full speed in...

Computer won't boot into macOS, but works fine in windows

/var is supposed to be unmodifiable. Period. It's one of the protected root directories. Those are supposed to be unchangeable even with SIP disabled. The fact that a mere launch daemon could get in there and alter it without even so much as user input such as a root password means there's a...

Computer won't boot into macOS, but works fine in windows

Of all the things google does in the realm of evil, modifying a core OS symlink...what the actuall hell?

<< Solved >> Sierra stop working shutdown after loading

Looks like I'm #3 in the Sierra failed to boot reports for today. All three on the same day with the same OS. Something's up. I was able to recover because I had a Sierra USB installer with Clover on it that I use for recovery purposes and was able to reinstall the OS without losing data, but...

Nvidia Drivers for Mojave 10.14 Not Available, no WorkAround works well

They can't do anything about breaking things like Little Snitch if Apple does not approve the drivers. Without Apple's explicit approval, the drivers do not get access to the OS' built in library validation functionality and as such, will break apps like Little Snitch that use lib validation...

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

Roger that. I have a dump of my current DSDT edited and will try it out later. Good thing this was a simple edit because the DSDT was customized with one of PJALM's USB device rename edits and his repo is gone, so I really didn't want to have to muck around with that as it's the only solution...

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

Hrm. This looks interesting: Could this be used to rename the graphics card from within clover to what you said to do in the DSDT manual edit?

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

This post is an addendum to the previous post. Nope, unchecking those two settings (FixHDA, AddHDMI) did not work. However, with both enabled, the DisplayPorts closest to the motherboard work for audio, and if I boot with the TV connected to the DP connector (either of the two on the GPU...

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

Thank you again. I'll try disabling those settings and rebooting. Not like I can't just re-enable them if necessary. Quick question: Will disabling FixHDA also disable onboard audio? It'd be nice to be able to retain both onboard and HDMI audio like I was able to previously. If not, not a deal...

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

Thanks. I'll get to checking those options out. The DSDT edit was the original one created by you and done when I made this DSDT back in 2015 (was using the 780, a Kepler GPU, at the time). Edit: Both Clover Configurator and checking manually in the config.plist file itself via XCode show both...

    AppleHDA HDMI Audio [Guide]

Yewwo :) I am having issues getting HDMI audio working on my GTX 1080 Ti, so I'll run down the list of requested items to help you assist me in troubleshooting: 1) I've just recently (as in yesterday) upgraded from my GTX 780 OC to a brand spanking new EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Elite Gaming Black (try...

Update Directly to macOS High Sierra

Just a real quick question since I haven't had the time to make the USB installer yet - is that terminal command to force non-conversion to APFS going to work on the USB installer or just the app installer? Trying to avoid having to do the copy juggle after downloading as that gets annoying...

Apple Previews iMac Pro: The Fastest Mac Ever

Yeeeeeeeah, I'm not buying that these HCC Xeons can run at load without throttling in an iMac Pro chassis. I'm sorry, but there's a reason Xeon heatsinks are generally overkill - they aren't low TDP parts. They're usually designed for 24/7 operation (they're enterprise server parts), not...
