iTunes on 2 different drives, confused.

Hi, I personally followed this article a while back to do this: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to-a-new-hard-drive/ I've been running with my iTunes Library this way on an external drive for a while now without problems, so maybe it will help you...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Thanks to all three of you for the input, and for clearing up my confusion about the fans. I think I am pretty much decided now, on going with the Fractal case as not only do you all recommend it, but I prefer the look of it and think it's great it has only 2, 5.25inch bays (would never need 4...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Your build and excellent guide were one of the first I found on this site and is a major reason for going with what I did, e.g.: UD3H. :D Here in the UK, I see these fans are a third of the cost of the Noctuas so that's excellent advice, thanks - although I haven't seen the PWM model yet...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Oh whoops, I think I've found the answer to some of my questions above: On Page 25 of the manual there is this diagram: mobo_fans.pdf which shows that the 4th pin on SYS_FAN2 is "Reserve", whereas the 4th Pin on CPU_FAN is "speed control", so I think that must mean that the bios setting: CPU...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Thanks for the clarification, I thought that sounded weird! So I've been reading your / (our) motherboard's manual online and it I believe that it should regulate the Noctua's speed through the CPU_FAN header if you change the option under: PC Health Status --> CPU Smart Fan Mode --> and...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Thanks Coupz, that's interesting - my current screen is only 1680x1050 so hopefully it will run a little bit cooler. Also, if you don't connect the Noctua to your CPU_FAN header, how does it get it's power? Do you connect it to something else? I haven't really understood how the fans are...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

I saw this 1TB limit mentioned on another thread yesterday and couldn't fathom it... Although not a problem for this build, is that really the case, and why is there that limitation? Thanks!

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Thanks, your build is actually one of the ones I had bookmarked during my researching, so the similarities are intentional :) I was planning on a Caviar Black 500GB for the windows partition, but was hoping that the rubber mounts in the hard drive bays on this case would lessen the impact of...

Thoughts on quiet, reliable build for software-dev/gamer

Hello, I'm yet another first-time hope-to-be hackintosh-er, who has been lurking around here for the past couple of months trying to figure out how it all works, and am now looking to finalise a build. I apologise for this being overly long!! It was helpful though for me at least, laying out...

    DSDT GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 v1.3 F11

In this thread http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=54180&start=0&hilit=ud3H+f11 the second poster has attached a DSDT for this board and bios F11, so hope that works. I'm also thinking about this board so was banking on this DSDT to work initially while I learn how to write my own :)

    [SUCCESS] JM5's Hack ~ GA-Z68XP-UD4|i7-2700k|32GB RAM|6870

Thanks for the response! I was thinking of just running with perhaps just the 3 included fans, say 2 front, one back, to try and keep the noise down. Or perhaps buy special quieter fans, like you said. Although it's not for audio production, I'm just a bit fussy about noise, particularly when...

    Ubermick's Build: i7 3770K//Z77X-UP5-TH //GTX 670 OC

Hi, Thanks for such a great guide, I am thinking about copying quite a lot from your build when doing my own first ever build soon :D I am particularly interested in your comments about noise and the Noctua in your setup: How do you find the noise of your setup overall and the Noctua in...

    [SUCCESS] JM5's Hack ~ GA-Z68XP-UD4|i7-2700k|32GB RAM|6870

Hi, I really like your build and am considering my own (first) build based off of this. Could you possibly say a bit more about how noisy it is under your workload (and what it's like under lighter loads), and also perhaps what part (if any) is making the most noise? I was considering this...
