Thanks for the info. I was debating buying a new video card but looks like my old Batmobile is holding up well. I just ran the Bruce test and scored 59. Not bad for a 4 year old system :)
10.9.2 updated via app store. No issues so far. GPU still shows up as HD5000 in about this Mac.
I'm not sure it matters. For what it's worth Geekbench can tell it's a 5770
I thought it might have been a GPU issue but it turns out my TM restore screwed up a bunch of permissions.

It was affecting Motion, FCPX and iCloud. Anyhow all is good now. I'll have to look into the GPU thing...
Same here. I tried a couple of times to simply update my 10.8.4 install. I even ran Multibeast from another drive to see if that would fixed it. Gave up and performed a clean install. I also used my time machine backup to restore.
Only problem is my 5770 is showing up as an ATI Radeon HD...
Thanks for taking the time to post. Sleep finally works!
Sorry I can't help with USB 3 as I don't have any 3.0 drives.
The only issue so far is the eject key on the keyboard and the DVD drive itself do not work.
I haven't used my DVD drive in forever so I'm not going to waste any time on...
My old system is similar to yours. I was running XP and bought a new hard drive to test SL. Over time OS X became my primary OS. I still use XP but just occasionally for Solidworks. Anyhow I would suggest you buy an SSD and try OS X on your ASUS before you jump into a new build.
I upgraded...
I see OS X distribution method as merging with IOS. People don't have install DVD's for Iphones and Ipads. They are did not get one with IOS 4 and certainly will not get one with IOS 5. The Mac is the next step. I think it's pretty cool. The average Apple user does not care about install...
Just curious; How do you manage IOS updates? I realize they are not 4GB but the last Iphone update was 667 MB... Did they draft plans to switch to Windows Mobile?
Thanks. I ended up getting the CNPS10x Performa. Runs great and plenty of clearance around the ram. Temps are now maxing out at 55C. I feel like I just took the training wheels off this bad boy!
Hey Xiola69
Thanks for the pics. I have a HAF 912 so that should fit. What kind of temps are you seeing? Are they similar to Gord's? The only comparison I have is my old E5200. It never got above 40C even at full load. I had it OC'ed to 3.2. Don't remember what brand of cooler it had but...
I'm getting 70-80C temps under load using the stock settings (34x no Turbo). That stock cooler has got to go.
Can someone suggest an aftermarket cooler that will clear G. Skills Sniper Ram?
I don't intend to OC past 4.2ish
Thanks

However, No video whatsoever. Is there something from my previous ATI install that I need to remove?
I ran Multibeast 2.6 and the nvidia update
Thanks
