Mojave to Monterey- Which drive to test OS upgrade on?

Thanks, that's all a great help. I'm swaying towards a clean install of Big-Sur on the internal sata SSD holding my OS backup, keeping an external backup of Mojave untouched. Maybe an update to Monterey once the bugs are ironed out for me ;-) From what I can find my current boot drive NVMe is a...

Mojave to Monterey- Which drive to test OS upgrade on?

Hi, Been running a hackintosh (my first) for 4-5 years with Mojave and haven't done a single update. I like to keep it as-is when it's running well and don't have time to be problem solving every few weeks with updates. Finally feeling compelled to do a major upgrade. Not a geek by any means...

    Mojave straight to Big Sur?

Thanks. That was my feeling, that I should do a clean install. I have used migration assistant across two previous iMacs to the Hackintosh, so I'm sure there's a heap of crap in the system that should be cleaned. Just need to find a few days not working with it to re-install all the software...

    Mojave straight to Big Sur?

I'm currently running Mojave 10.14.6 on a Designare Z390. My OS is on a PCI SSD. I also have another SATA SSD i can clear. Is it best to update to Big Sur on the PCI one, or clean install it on the SATA one? I'm no expert in Hackintosh and really just follow the guides with limited knowledge...

EFIClone - automatic backup of the EFI partition

have installed and running now, but getting errors like "cannot add a volume to the APFS container". Do I need to duplicate the partitions and volumes manually beforehand using disk utility?

EFIClone - automatic backup of the EFI partition

So if I downloaded the Mac version it won't clone properly? Should I get the Windows version as a trial and transfer the registration over later? Does the Windows version install and run like a normal mac app? I haven't touched a windows computer for 20 years!

EFIClone - automatic backup of the EFI partition

Does that mean I still need to use a Windows thumb drive to run Acronis from? I only have one boot drive in the machine, with mojave 10.14.4 running

EFIClone - automatic backup of the EFI partition

I'm still confused... Can the 2020 version of Acronis make a bootable clone of all partitions of my boot drive, including EFI, just by running the Mac version and choosing "Clone"? Will it automatically create the same partitions etc? Or do I still need to do the whole "Windows on a thumb drive"...

Overheating causing black screen freeze? And ACRONIS question.

My Hack has just gone black screen while editing in DaVinci Resolve (new version 16 installed today but used fine for hours). Had to hard shutdown and restart with the button, but screen is stretched unusually during boot up and then fails with a kernal panic saying "contact apple to report...

    Economy of Hackintoshing?

These last replies are really good. While I could theoretically "make the difference in days", it's not like I'd be turning work away to maintain my machine ( I do have days with no work!), so the lower initial cost is definitely a factor, plus another "economy" factor that occurred to me is...

    Economy of Hackintoshing?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking I'll just have a go at building it and if it doesn't work out, or takes up too much time, I can make it a windows machine and just do without FCPX (which I wanted for ProResRAW) or even sell it off as a gaming machine. I actually quite enjoy tinkering...

    Economy of Hackintoshing?

I love the idea of building a kick-arse Hackintosh, but wondering about the economies of it in reality. My build will add up to about $4500AUD, and be equivalent to an iMac Pro for $7500 off-the shelf. Considering I'm a full-time photographer and film-maker, I can earn the difference in a...
