Thanks for getting back to me!
Tried fixing the permissions on the kext (it was set to me instead of root:wheel), which allowed it to load fine (the kextcache error was gone), but still no auto dim.
I'm happy to give a fresh install a try, but I'm not 100% certain what that involves. I've done...
Was working, but then stopped. Not sure when, unfortunately. I can still go through all 3 levels of brightness with the function key; it just doesn't dim when left alone as it used to. I noted when rebooting to collect the ACPI and preboot logs that autodim worked during the Clover boot screen...
The BIOS option I'm given is "Video memory size." That's been set to 512, as shown in the original set of images I uploaded (thought I'd read elsewhere 64 was the minimum, more was fine). Happy to lower that.
Is that DVMT-prealloc?
Additional information. I have no USB devices plugged in.

The embarrassingly simple solution to disabling Fast Boot in the BIOS was resetting the BIOS to factory defaults.
Good news: Fast Boot is disabled. Bad news: sleep and shutdown still don't work. Updated debug files attached.
Looks like that was a wild goose chase. Got Windows 10 installed (no mean feat in itself: had to remove the M2 drive for the installer to work properly) and disabled Fast Boot in Windows, but this unfortunately had no effect on Fast Boot in the BIOS. Neither the Googlebox nor my 50 attempts at...
Tried deleting and recreating the partition with the Windows installer. Windows still wouldn't install. Creating a Windows 10 USB installer now.
...and same result. Installer complains that the disk is formatted GPT and can't install to it.
Attempting that now. I've created a bootable USB installer for Windows 7 Ultimate. I've selected the USB stick, installer's started. I repartitioned my main drive, creating a 20 GB HFS+J partition, per the guide. I've selected that partition in the installer, and it says it can't install because...
I've successfully avoided Windows for 25 years or so now. I'd install it, but I'm not sure how to with this setup and already partitioned drive.
I've begun installing a VM (found a utility that's supposed to be able to change the BIOS from within Windows), but I don't think that's going to help...
Might be worth mentioning: this machine only has MacOS on it. Moved from Ubuntu. I bring this up because I've read that the HP security magic needs something in Windows.
That's the other thing I've had no luck with (forgot about that). As you can see, it requires one of two prerequisites to do that, both of which I've attempted. I successfully enrolled in HP SpareKey (had to answer 3 security questions); I successfully enabled DriveLock. Fast Boot is still...
First off, great site for making this thing work. Happy to find a new life for this old thing.
I'm up to 20 or so hours of beating my head against this. The machine is working great (typing this message on it), with the exception of sleep not functioning. It seems to do the same thing as...
