Right, I was just asking about which way would be simpler. I know (at least I think) the 980 would continue to work, just with whatever generic barebones drivers there are. This what happened when I tried updating to Mohave a couple years ago without realizing there were no Nvidia web drivers.
Thanks for the response!
Motherboard model (from my Amazon order):
I do want to stick with a dedicated GPU because I do dual boot into Windows to play games at times. The 980 Ti continues to be great and does what I need it to do (e.g. HL Alyx) but if I'm going to switch I'd like it to be at...
Actually now that I'm reading a bit more it seems like it might be better to update up to Big Sur instead of Monterey. Seems like there are a lot of compatibility issues with Monterey.
Build:
MoBo: LGA1151 Intel Z170
Processor: Core i7 6700K
RAM: 32GB DDR4 2400
GPU: GeForce GTX 980 Ti
I’m hoping to get some guidance on upgrading my GPU. I build my hackintosh back in 2017 but I don’t really actively keep up with the scene so I feel almost like I’m starting from scratch here...
I'm currently using AFP for my network drives. If I remember correctly when I tried SMB there were issues with permissions transferring properly to and from the network drives. Also SMB was just in general slower when it came to transfer speeds. I think I may have read that SMB should be capable...
Hey, sorry for the delay here. This was quite a while ago but if I remember correctly I think I just played with installing different versions of the network drivers through Multibeast. I really don't remember if that was what took care of it or if it just kind of stopped happening.
Sierra 10.12.3
LGA1151 Intel Z170
Core i7 6700K 4GHz
GeForce GTX 970 G1
32GB DDR4 2400
I've been running this build for the better part of a year without any major issues. I also have a HD dedicated to Windows 10 which predates the hackintosh. That windows drive was created years ago by...
I did a search and found several "slow ethernet" threads but none of them matched my experience exactly so I thought creating a new one made sense. I'm running 10.12.3 (more specs below) and this is a periodic problem. I first noticed this when copying files to and from my Synology DiskStation...
