Rather unlikely, someone on ****** acknowledged, that Apple will most likely use a discrete Vega GPU in conjunction with six-core i7/i9 processors rather than having a Kaby Lake G with only four cores, which would be a performance loss compared to the existing configurations.

Did you manage to resolve this issue? I have the same problem with my Skylake build when using iMac17,1 sysdef. With iMac14.2 disks and USB sticks are mounted correctly.

Someone in the original NVME driver thread found a temporary solution that you might want to try.
Use boot argument: usekernelcache=no
