Thanks everyone, the oil burner lives! These EFI's all worked for me on Catalina but I could not get the Big Sur installer to work. My mouse would move in the Big Sur installer but I could not click on anything. The missing piece for me was the IOHID Family Patch. Asus Sabertooth X79.
Did you figure it out?
Problem started when Sierra was released. Need a patched DSDT unless something has changed. Curious as I've been using the same fix ever since.
Search Sierra posts for X79. Here's mine about it...
Just updated to 10.12.1, installed the CoreDisplay successfully (finally) but still no dice. I can get 30 HZ fine but nothing at 50 or 60 hz. Any tips on where to go on this one? Running as Mac Pro 5.1.
When I run it I keep getting:
Unknown version of CoreDisplay found..
Anyone have luck getting 4k HiDPI resolution over HDMI? Sierra has been a breeze save this one issue on my x79.
I'm up with a Sabertooth x79. Same as above, installed from an SSD and used a PCI USB card to get a working keyboard. Will need a patched DSDT to get onboard USB working. Here's the config.plst that got me through the install. Very basic. Aside from the boot flags I have graphics set to inject...
Get the MLB/ROM values off the G5 if you can to make iMessage work on your new rig.
Highly recommend these guys for kits to mod your case for full ATX:

Success on the Saber x79 as a boot drive via BIOS mod here.
I followed the instructions in Post #19 and used the DXE file on post #95 of this thread:

I had to use the BIOS flashback as opposed to using the utility in the BIOS. Very pleased.
Midphase - read OP again. Your installer quits because OS X has no working USB ports on this board. Use the patched DSDT that is linked to get the USB ports to continue working as the installer loads. Or you could use a hard drive instead of a USB stick, and get a native usb card..... I could...

I expect it is because x79 is not as straight forward in El Cap, and therefore not recommended for those new to this. On my board none of the USB ports worked until I found a patched DSDT. Also seems x79 motherboards are getting scarce, and x99 may be overlooked by Apple. Probably best to steer...
Yes. Find a patched DSDT if you want to go El Capitan. None of the USB ports work in El Cap. Yosemite was excellent on this board. El Cap is working great now that I got past the USB woes...
Prices for x79 aren't exactly looking cheap compared to x99 last I looked, are you finding the...
Jaco - Did you manage to get the HyperX working on the Sabertooth x79?
I have been eying fast drives for this board, eagerly wanting to pull the trigger but have yet to confirm a working PCIe solution.
Edit - I also found this guide...
The ****** link is where I found the patched dsdt, crucial.
The only Kexts I needed were:
FakeSMC-2
NullCPUPowerManagement
And my audio/ethernet kexts....
I updated to 10.11.1 without thinking about the web drivers. Fortunately they were out already. Installing the update breaks the web...
This board had zero working usb ports and I hit the prohibited sign during install. I ended up loading the installer on an ssd and buying a PCI USB card referenced in other threads to get it going with a keyboard. I used the standard config.plist for my 970 GTX. SM Bios 5,1. I am using NV_drv=1...
Ok - moving forward on this one...
Purchased so far:
Asus Sabertooth x79
G5 Powermac enclosure/Laser Hive ATX Low conversion kit
Still looking for advice on the following:
PSU - Considering Corsair AX760. Looking for better alternative for the G5 case...
Graphics - Gigabyte GeForce GTX...
I have been patiently waiting to upgrade my 1366 i7 to X99. Now I have been offered a free Xeon 6 core form a friend upgrading his 2013 Mac Pro processor, and am considering an X79 build.
For the build I am looking at the recommended Gigabyte x79-up4 or Sabertooth x79. Had a few questions and...
