Not upgraded to Bug Sur.
If I do, I'll do a fresh install on a spare SSD and copy data over. This is my normal way of working.
Changing the system def worries me though. I did look at this a month or so ago and couldn't get a definitive answer on what to do.
Will stay with current OS as...
I wanted to say thanks for this. I've spent the best part of the day pulling my hair put to find this issue and clearing out the UEFI entries worked.
Appreciate it.

I had a similar issue that the Mac App store would not update five applications. It just stopped working after 24/9/20 for some reason. No idea what had changed at all.
Signed out of the App Store, signed in again, rebooted etc etc. All the things you did and with much the same effect :)
Had...
After a week of messing around and trying all sorts of combinations of SSD's, USB's Mojave and Clover, I've finally managed to get my very first SSD working again without the MB refusing to boot.
There appears to be some sort of interaction with my Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H motherboard and a recent...
@Big-W (?)
Thanks for the reply. The SSD is an Samsung 960 Evo. I also have the same issue with a Crucial 512GB M4 SSD, so it's not SSD related.
What I think is happening is that something on the install is changing a hidden flag/value in the BIOS and that rebooting with no bootable disk is...
Yep, you're right. It was Clover 4769 I started with.
I'm writing this on my Hack now and once it's booted, its fine. It's just this weird issue where you have to get it to state there is no boot disk present, then power up, then reattach the disk and it works.
Hi,
I was preparing my Mohave system for an upgrade to Catalina. My first thing to do was upgrade Clover to a more recent version.
so I
1. Made a full backup of the boot disk (a 1TB Samsung SSD) with Carbon Copy Cloner.
2. Downloaded Clover 5099 as Clover Configurator stated the 5100 wasn't...
@percussive, @pastrychef
I ended up buying a reconditioned 1KW APC Smart UPS. The company puts new batteries in and they are around 1/2 the price of new.
I have a Freenas server and a ESXI server connected, but not my Hack. They take up 18% of the battery according to the panel.
I pulled the...
@pastrychef
The FreeNAS runs a couple of other things as well in Jails. I had a Dell T110i server going free, so I did what I could. I used to have Symbology NAS with some of low powered Marvel chip. Utter rubbish. Also it's a single Xeon, I have double Xeons on the shelf but no idea why I...
@pastrychef
Thanks for the update. Reassuring that the numbers do make sense.
Tomorrow I'll check the FreeNas box 6 x 4TB Iron Wolfs on a single Xeon. The VMWare is i4770, 32GB but all SSD so I'm expecting that to be in the 150W range, interesting to see what the FreeNas box comes in at.
All...
Hi,
I need to get a UPS for home, I have a Hack, a FreeNAS box and VMWare ESXI Server. I also have three monitors, some local networking and other odds and sods.
Rather than try to work out what my consumption is on my hackinotsh, I thought I'd buy a little power meter that I plug my Hack into...
I have dual R9-280X cards in my hackintosh, basically a generation or two before the RX580's.
The main reason for this was:
1. I wanted to run multiple monitors, I currently run four. I could run six with the ports available, sadly I don;t have the desk space.
2. Some applications I use do...
I thought that most hard disks (nor SSD's) could survive a 300G shake. Thats quite a lot, you and I would probably be dead by then.
I'd be astonished if you could shake a HD to generate 300G shock, though dropping onto a rigid floor from a certain height would do this. My maths is shaky as I...
I had this issue as I had multiple OS X partitions for backup and versioning. I have a lot of hard disks.
In the end I disconnected every hard disk I had apart from the Mac OS X disk.
Whether this is your problem or not I can't tell from the description, so it may or may not help you.
I run four monitors off two R9-280X's and have managed to run three monitors off a single 280X card. I ran out of ports as my cards had upto 3 ports I could use, clearly VGA don't work and neither does DVI with Mojave. I suspect you will have similar issues and run out of ports way before you...
Or even an AMD 5770, it is oooooold but can be picked up off eBay for very little and works well with FCPX. two of them are very good indeed and dirt cheap.
