No audio on Dell 3471 with Realtek 3820

Another beautiful day here (at freezing). I understand the atmospheric river is upon you!
Install progress. Still retrying 100,000 times. Log timestamped a few minutes ago, so good.

These atmospheric rivers are invigorating, and not just for the soil and reservoirs. They are punctuated by a few days of picture perfect weather, as was the case yesterday.

Install progress. Still retrying 100,000 times. Log timestamped a few minutes ago, so good.
The file you posted was AppleALC kext instead of the log file.

AppleALC should only iterate 50 times:

Oops. Messy desktop. Here is the log.
Separately, I also tried other ALCid values (11, and 1) but no difference.
And subsequent reboots are also generating 115,000 load attempts. AppleALC timestamped yesterday 8:17pm (EST)

Let's try the attached version of AppleALC.
  • An earlier IOReg screenshot shows that macOS sees Codec ID 0x10DE0AC0, which is decimal 282987200
  • This codec ID does not exist in the standard PinConfigurations kext, which means AppleALC does not support it
  • So I've created new entries for it (Layout 11 and 13)
  • I've also reverted the previous device ID spoof, which means 0xA2F0 will be mapped back to original 0xA170
Timestamp is 6:26 am Pacific or 9:26 am Eastern:

Let's check IOReg and Lilu log file after booting with this version.

Similar behavior. Also, still trying >100k times. Uh-oh. Lost sound output through USB sound device (although that still appears in the menu and Hackintool). Checking... Nevermind. Looks like it was the USB device itself.

Is there an nVidia GPU in your Dell system?

If so, have you tried removing it?

The Codec IDs in your IOReg screenshot are coming from an nVidia device, which means that the Realtek Codec is still not being detected by macOS.

This version of AppleALC should limit the retries to 50... (I hope).

Nope. Using Intel onboard graphics.

And not to forget, sound out works under Linux (Ubuntu).

That is okay because your (a) controller and (b) codec are both natively supported in Linux, but they're not supported in macOS. AppleALC attempts to make them work in macOS.
