Reason 2:
- Our desktop systems are composed of:
- Separate tower for computer
- Separate monitor
- In other words, our Hackintosh systems are not all-in-one units
- Mac Pro is the only current Intel-based system from Apple that comes in two pieces
- (Mac Studio is not Intel-based)
- In About this Mac we therefore see an image of a mini-tower
Reason 2 drifted into magical thinking.
At risk of sounding pedantic...
The SW doesn't know anything about our regards the physical placement of components in space (towers vs AIO). SW function is determined by the types of components and the connections and logic bringing them together.
The only rule that I can think of about AIO macs is that they tend to rely on Intel iGPU.
As to reasoning about length of support by Apple: This is a red herring. The whole point of hackintosh is end-running what is supported by Apple! We proceed by examining what can made to work. It just so happens that for 20 years Apple based products on Intel PC and strongly influenced PC design. If someone figured out you could boot from a pile of sand, they'd use it, regardless as to whether a pile of sand was ever supported by Apple. We persist because for a long time the essence of Mac was just the SW orchestration of a PC.
There's no principle that I can determine about SMBIOS selection other that matching a config to a pile of sand in a way that works for you.
As to SMBIOS and incremental Software Updates, I can't argue about what's been found to work-or-not-work witb some pile of sand. But that also reads like ju-ju.
It's not my intention to deride here. I prefer reasons with explanations to reasons of pure lore. I'm speaking up to call out pure lore and to steer the life-raft I'm sharing away from Cargo Cult Falls and the legend El Dorado located at the bottom of the falls.
