Thank you so much for your advices!
I've just got the Sapphire RX 480 8GB.
I've plugged off all hard drives before install.
Followed these steps:
https://www.theitsage.com/install-radeon-rx-480-gpu-macos-sierra/
And it's now working great.
BruceX test was done in 21 seconds. I was expecting to be less.
Geekbench 4 scored it 90523, but at their records the RX 480 scores 125929.
Do you guys know why this difference?
Final note: I've made the actual system backup using Carbon Copy Cloner to a new hd.
Don't know why, but I can't boot using that drive.
I've removed all other drives and tried booting on that one, and the bios asks to insert a bootable drive. Weird.
Anyway.. thanks A TON for all your support! Now I have a fast hackintosh!! Yay!!
Windows DirectX 11 or DX12 have much better driver suppor
Here is what I've read in the link you posted:
"******RX 480 models now working with full acceleration: XFX RX 480 (reference and aftermarket multi fan models), Sapphire Nitro RX 480 8gb, Powercooler Red Devil 8gb.
RX 480 models that are not working as of 10/26/16 Gigabyte, Asus. HIS, MSI."
That's why I opted for the XFX. Hope they are correct in that statement!
I need to update the List. Theoretically, they should all work unless they have a different vbios.
As OF 11/30/16
RX 480 cards reported working in Sierra Radeon testers thread on this forum (w/Uningine benchmarks).
XFX all models
Sapphire all models
Powercooler Red Devil
MSI gaming
Asus Strix
HIS
I tried a Gigabyte in the early versions of Sierra but never had any luck, another tester has not been able to get it working recently. I also tested Asus, and MSI models and had no luck. Since then as Sierra has progressed these cards are reported working. My XFX RX 480 was always tested as a control before and after trying these cards and it always worked. Graphics driver support for the cards improved after the public release of Sierra in the Beta versions.
RX 470 cards reported working.
MSI gaming
Sapphire Nitro
There are probably other models working now, but most people go for the 480s, or 460s so there aren't many 470 reports.
RX 460 reported working in Sierra.
Gigabyte RX 460 2gb, and 4gb models with no 6pin power connector.
Sapphire Nitro RX 460 w/6 pin power connector.
These cards seem to have pretty good support and I've ran windows Uningine benchmarks using integrated graphics mode and open GL and the scores are equal. Open CL drivers seem to work well in some apps and not so well in others.
Hopefully, when the Vega 10 cards come out Jan-Feb 2017 they will be affordable and we may have some good news about those when they get here, but as has been said earlier, Apple can remove support for anything at any time with an update.
Sierra 9500controller kext. Polaris 10, Polaris 11 is Baffin and has its own section.
And the eagerly awaited Vega 10, let us hope this is really gonna work, this is just after the Tonga support.
You can use iHex to view this in Sierra. Go to System/Libraries/Extensions/Amd9500ControllerKext, right click and choose "show package contents" and open macOS folder drag the 9500 controller into iHex. This is toward the bottom of the kext as you can see from the scroll bar.
