So I am trying to put OS X 10.8 on my Bestbuy special (asus x401a) and wanted to document some of my progress. My specs are:

Intel Pentium B970
Intel HD graphics
4gb ram
120gb Sandisk Extreme SSD

I have the latest BIOS installed (x401a.210) and I am using the 10.8 retail app downloaded on my mac (hackintosh as well) and made the usb stick using the latest unibeast (1.5.3 ML). I used only the "Laptop Support" option in unibeast, then I copied these two kexts (http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=2870) to the /extra/extensions folder of the usb stick (find it using the show all files tool in the tonymacx86 downloads).

Plugging the usb stick in the usb 2.0 port (non-blue on right side) and pressed esc upon booting up, selected my usb, and I was greeted by the chimera bootloader. Using the following flags (may have to try it a couple time, it works sometimes, and sometimes not):

-v -f UseKernelCache=no cpus=1

I was able to make it to the installer (so happy!) and I installed it to my HDD (I have windows and ubuntu already installed,so the disk is in MBR) and it was sucessful. I restarted booting from the usb stick and highlighting the HDD install of mac, using the same boot flags, it went right into the install (I actually may have added the -x for safe mode, I can not recall).

I have OOB:
Correct resolution (1366x768)
working keyboard
usb 3.0 port is working (my usb mouse does, don't know about the 3.0 speed)

Not working:
Graphics (probably will never work)
Trackpad (driver is being worked on here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-lion-laptop-support/74051-elantech-touchpad-driver-mac-osx.html)
HDMI and VGA (untested)
SD card reader
battery
wireless (unsure of the installed card)
webcam (untested)

Any help would be appreciated in the venture

Hello,
i've just buyed a new Asus x301a, thank you very much for your precious information.
I've installed 10.8 and it works, my system (Asus x301a) with a Core I3-2370 (hd3000 graphics) works with all 4 cores.

thanks,
Davide

Hi so i had been trying to get 10.6.8 to run on x401a with little to no luck. I did get 10.6 to boot but no fun there. Anyway saw that you gut 10.8 on  very happy with that. Just wondering if there is any further development on it. for the wifi idk if this would work but i found a driver over at osx86 for the wifi card in mine which should be the same as yours if your own the Pentium model which is Atheros AR9285 http://www.osx86.net/view/2031-atheros_ar9285_wifi.html its unknown if it will work with 10.8 but yah. Well i hope there is some developemnt with this cause i really want to put in. Mostly cause i want to use iMessage.

SO my most important question is does iMessage work? /\wife driver link up there so you can connect to internet.

@2k-jacob

great job..! i am eyeing this one too.

can you please explain what you meant by 'Graphics not working' when you mentioned you have proper resolution?
did you mean acceleration not working? have you tried using apps like garageband on it?
i am looking at this just record music from my mic.

This particular laptop has the HD 2000 integrated graphics, which are not supported by Mac 10.8 natively, and I have yet to see a kext to fix it. I do not have garageband on here quite yet, but I will start this project back up here soon

I have the same type of laptop its just that mine uses core i3 and Intel HD 3000. Have you had any luck on installing the bootloader on the internal drive of the laptop itself? I keep on using the unibeast installer to boot the internal hard disk.

what does not work on my setup are:
- sleep
- WiFi (will install a different card)
- webcam
- SD Card reader

not tested are but will be testing later on:
- ethernet card
- HDMI
- VGA

What works are:
- trackpad
- sound
- battery
- Graphics (1366x768) full QE/Quartz
