So I'm the dude who started this thread 6 months ago. Some thoughts I'd like to share --
1. Y'all are amazingly dedicated and persistent types. Take a group bow.
2. As I said many pages ago I had to return this unit because of the complete garbage that was 8.1. I couldn't believe that...
I kinda don't see the point of Hackintoshing this Dell. A similar MacBook Pro works 'out of the box' for only $300 more... and gives you an i5 processor with 4 extra gigs of ram.
If Dell gave you that the unit would cost at least another $125.
Heya, I sent you a friend request on this board -- which I think -- is the way I contact you behind the scenes to take this kUbuntu discussion off this board and return to Hackintalk.
But while I'm wasting this space, may I share an irony. I had tried eOS Freya in beta and it worked great...
I've got to tell you -- I'm playing with Ubuntu Gnome 15 and starting to feel convinced. It's a contest between this distro and Kubuntu 15. If UG15 had the 'system settings' Kubuntu has -- it would be no contest.
Hate to ask the favor of a triple booting person, but have you tried the new...

I'd like to speak to you offline of this board to further discuss Linux and such. If the MODs don't mind. And presuming there's a way to do this via internal board mail (?). (There is -- if you turn on your inbox.)
By the by, you've just got to see how the new Kubuntu Vivid...
Do you have a Linux functioning perfectly? Meaning very little tweaking after install? Or did you freak the tweak? I'm tempted to rebuy this unit once I'm sold Linux rocks on this.
Which Linux works for you?
I had to return my ZenBook. Which is ironic since I started this thread. The unit was perfectly fine -- probably the PC laptop I've ever touched.
I'll be keenly watching and awaiting to see some success with this unit. Including a YouTube post maybe.
Best of Luck, Newbie1TonyMomo...
Thanks, but I'm highlighting differences. Typically you don't have to fear a Mac app is slipping another one your way, fix volume/brightness buttons, fix 'security' checkboxes that don't work in OS X, or reinstall/purchase a signature edition Mac.
