    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Yesterday I went on and tried the above. At first reboot upon resetting the CMOS it worked. I had saved a BIOS profile so I just had to reload that without drilling through the settings :) Then I checked for MSR 0xE2 and it was locked, so I went through the ordeal of unlocking it and it worked...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Unfortunately I've tried the first road multiple times to no avail. I even removed the Broadcom PCIe adapter and spent a couple days without Bluetooth and WiFi which seemed to make it more likely to come up every few restarts, but still unpredictably. I'll try the second path today. In my mind...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I also own a BM TB2 Mini Recorder and a BM DeckLink Mini 4K, but the Magewell is far superior when it comes to System Integration, speed and reliability. For instance both BM products I own are not able to negotiate proper settings with my 2 Sony Axxxx cameras. The price tag is of course much...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ I've been incredibly happy with this build for over a year, it served me well, but I am having a lot of trouble getting an internal PCIe card to work reliably. Once the system recognises it it works like a charm, but the trouble I have is that it only shows up whimsically every few...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@echosat1 @svandive I think I have fixed my cooling issues. Essentially, I had no way of controlling both radiator's fans from the SYS_FAN header I had left and ordered a splitter. They are now running both of SYS_FAN at full throttle and the cores are much cooler now. At idle with just this...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

hey Casey I've of course already read that. I set the Bios to full-speed for all of them and still my system overheats. Also I have yet to find out what is an acceptable maximum temperature for cores under pressure, because I simply don't know :D If 85/88ºC is fine then I won't worry, I just...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@archalys @CaseySJ I finally got VirtualSMC to work after updating Clover to 5045 and renaming things (-64), as well as moving them to the right folder. have to say that having an external bootable OS on TB3 really comes in handy when you want to mess things up :D I finally have all the cores...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

thanks, mate! this might be exactly what I need to fix my issues with VirtualSMC. Fortunately I have a cloned system running of a TB2 drive so I can boot into that and mess things up when I want :D I am also still running Clover 4934 which maybe doesn't play well with VirtualSMC 1.07. Whilst...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I've tried them all, it just won't boot. It gets stuck at appleacpicpu and won't move forward. If I put FakeSMC into kext/other and force a kext injection, I'm able to boot the system and revert the changes. For me VirtualSMC is a no go. Instructions have been followed carefully 4 times :)

well done! I believe I have already donated to the site once, I believe. With this one it makes it twice. Thank you for the suggestion, that button should be more visible ;) I don't even drink alcohol, but a Moka brew in the morning makes me happy. Don't go as far as roasting my beans, though...

I know, I know... 16 years of Macs and I still do these things :D @CaseySJ Plugging the BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini and seeing it appear as a result of TB hot-plug is priceless. do you have a kofi account or something? Do you accept donations? I'd really love to offer you a coffee, beer, cake...

@CaseySJ Something which could make it into an update to the post: ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE USB HUBS not really sure why but it kept shutting down and rebooting afte the first "Install Mac OS from Mojave" and never continued further. Unplugged the Hub (Keyboard was going through it) and I'm...

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Thank you for this incredibly detailed guide @CaseySJ! I found myself in need of a larger motherboard because I could only fit one PCIe card on my Gigabyte Z170mx Gaming 5. Looking around, I almost lost faith but then bumped into this. I've carefully read all the instructions, updates and...

I use the setup USB thumb drive. Once I'm at the first screen I launch the terminal and activate it from there. I keep it disabled all the time, but I've seen folks who re-enable it when done. > csrutil disable

I wouldn't know. I actually went to check on GigaByte's site and this board does indeed support faster memory. I may have to slap my parts guy soon ;) Support for DDR4 3466(O.C.) /3400(O.C.) /3333(O.C.) /3300(O.C.) /3200(O.C.) /3000(O.C.) /2800(O.C.) /2666(O.C.) /2400(O.C.) /2133 MHz memory...
