I tracked the issue down further, and was able to eliminate a huge source of it, but it still happens occasionally when I slip up.
For me, it was static electricity. I had one of those plastic floor mats for rolling chairs. Rolling over it was generating a static field strong enough apparently...
I figured out my issue. It wasn't software related at all. I had a plastic chair mat on the carpet under my chair. Apparently it was generating a static electrical field powerful enough to interfere with the Vega and cause it to pretty much shut down. I moved the plastic mat and the problem went...
I am having a very similar problem. I'm using smbios iMac18,3...screens randomly lose signal and the only way to recover is to hard reset. Definitely interested in troubleshooting further. It's infuriating!
Same thing is happening on my system, but doesn't seem to be related to adding/removing usb devices, I just lose signal on all of my monitors, and can't get it back. Although the computer continues operating normally. Did you ever figure anything out?
Check out my update in the Spectre x360 thread. I installed 10.12.6 and removed a bunch of spoofs, and this problem no longer plagues me.

This happens to me too using the proper config.plist from RehabMan. In Clover, if you disable "Inject Intel" and boot in safe mode, (-x) then manually fix the permissions on your /Library/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions folders, you will be able to boot with acceleration...maybe a few...
