You don't have to do any of this, just power cycle your pc (press your power button NOT the reset button)! When your pc wakes up again, you should see the installer!

This may sound strange but... When I ran into this problem with my 6870, all I did was power cycle my PC. When my pc woke up, I had the actual installer screen! I did not have to edit any of my files or do any hoodoo with kernel flags.

I think restoring from the oobe wizard is the only way to do it. When I booted from the iboot cd and attempted to time machine restore it grumbled that this mac wasn't the same as the machine it was backed up on.
