    Boot0 error

I guess the problem lies with the SSD 'cos I upgraded to Yosemite and again had problems. Eventually got rid of the booting via USB by typing the long fix string into terminal. (Only if you get the 2 sectors written message is it fixed!!!) Hey Ho, such is life with a Hackintosh!

    Boot0 error

This is to confirm all is now fixed (except Hwmonitor). Multibeast fixed the boot problem on the SSD although why this all became such a problem I don't know. Hwmonitor is just giving drive temperatures and SSD status which is fairly useless but I'd rather leave well alone. So to summarise, if...

    Boot0 error

Well, I'm up and running again. I typed in mach_kernel and I thought we were dead as grey screen and then no display. BUT I noticed the disc light flashing away and it continued to do so. So I changed the monitor connection to DVI and voila ('cos I live in France) the system was up and running...

    Boot0 error

Update I downloaded the latest Chimera which still complains about mach_kernel BUT says press any key to continue. So I do and back to having a choice of systems to boot, but none do. Using verbose I can see that one is complaing about Hwmonitor and FakeSMC and two others are having a panic not...

    Boot0 error

I tried all the things I'm familiar with. Safe mode gives the same mach-kernel error. Verbose mode produces a lot of of @Read HFS+ file: [hd(2,2)/System/Library/Extensions/---.kext @ messages that I've never noticed before. It ends the same with the mach_kernel message. Chimera is v1.7.0 r1394...

    Boot0 error

I made a huge mistake of trying to update the cpu monitor (FakeSMC etc) after upgrading to 10.9.4. So my system wouldn't boot anymore. No problem as I have two backups on a hard drive. I managed to run one of them and used superduper to copy that one to my SSD. BUT the SSD won't boot and gives...

    Home file server advice

I can talk about unRaid which I chose because I wanted a solution to work with Video Media. It works with mixed drive sizes, it may have the highest ratio of data to redundancy that there is but it's not the fastest server. It is being developed to embrace VM so that it can run a number of other...

Hackintosh Problem Solving, is there a better way?

I found the biggest problem was how to know whether a typical solution was still valid after either an Apple Update or a Multibeast Update. Perhaps solution entries need 1) Votes that show whether they worked (or not) and 2) The last time the solution was used and proved to be useful. Perhaps...

How to Run Multiple Fans in a GA-Z87N-Wifi ITX?

I see no reason not to run the pump at full speed and let the Mobo control the fan but then I don't understand why the pump would have speed control capability. As mentioned don't overload the Mobo connections (see spec of Mobo and fans to check what is possible). Yes you can draw power from a...

How to Run Multiple Fans in a GA-Z87N-Wifi ITX?

Another option would be to use a splitter that allows the cooler a four wire connection with a three wire connect to the cooler fan. This would allow the pump and fan to be speed controlled by the board, This then leaves a free board connector for any other fans and you could use the same type...

    <<<Network Attached Storage>>> I NEED INFO?!

I also am very interested in File Servers. My latest discovery is Amahi (http://www.amahi.org/features) and it does have a Time Machine capability. It has many of the other features mentioned but the ones that attracted me were the JBOD ability and the option to remove a drive and access the...

    4TB Logical Volume Group Query

I'm not sure why, but I fixed mine as I needed to create a Raid 1 Mirror, There is no evidence that the formatting will cause you a problem but because there isn't a lot of knowledge around it might be prudent to avoid this format for a backup until Apple fix the problem? What would be good...

To build or not to build a hackintosh...

You can pay different amounts for a screen. Depends on size, use and image capability. This is very user subjective and the one key device that you'll see every day. I paid under 200 euro but then the main output for me is to an HDMI TV. At present I wouldn't want resolution higher than 1080p as...

To build or not to build a hackintosh...

Seems a good list. You could leave the Graphics card out to start with and I'd allow about another 100UKP for the miscellaneous bits and pieces such as mouse, keyboard, bluetooth, CPU cooler and perhaps a DVD drive? These days 1TB drives are small and because you lose a SATA port perhaps go with...

To build or not to build a hackintosh...

My son, an Apple qualified service manager, suggested I build a Hackintosh last Summer, so I did. It was a challenge and required a lot of reading and re-checking of specs to make sure I got a motherboard that matched all the things I wanted. It was hassle getting the display working with my...
