[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

As RehabMan said, it is always good to patch your own dsdt (small differences can make a huge impact!). I can help you with the config file and even the acpi folder. But please compare them :) and add your own patches to your own dsdt! Like that it will work to its upmost performance. You can...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

Thanks for the pointer on the FAQ, re-reading them I realized that I missed a few steps. Will take another go on it. Regarding resolutions, I'll most likely leave it like it is now, It actually looks good and if anything goes wrong I can use VNC to change it. Thank you again!

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

@RehabMan I'm stuck and out of ideas regarding the Display resolutions, I've redid the whole process from 0, with DVMT-prealloc set at 128MB, but it still goes black if I don't select "Low Resolution Mode". And one thing I did not manage to figure out is HDMI audio, though this isn't really...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

Small update: downgraded bios from A07 to A05, redid the above mentioned unlock. It seems to have worked this time. (I did not enter my servicetag number this time, left it as "unlocked"). Will proceed with reinstalling and starting from scratch so I can fix some past errors.

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

@RehabMan Hello again, I've stumbled onto something that might have been the cause for the display problems! DVMT-prealloc is not persistent, I noticed something was wrong when I tried to change from 96MB to 128MB, the offset for my DVMT-prealloc is 0x1C3 which showed up as 0x02 (64MB), when I...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

I've started a week ago, another week or two won't stop me now. If it's possible then it's worth the effort! I'll take another go on it and change DVMT-prealloc to 128MB and check your post on HiDPI maybe i find some clues there.

True, but it still looks very well, and if i go past 2560x1440 it gets too small to view. Do you suggest i should dig in deeper? Is there anything more i could do to fix the display? Just figured hdmi out ain't working but i'll get on to fixing it, will post updates as soon as i finish that.

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

@RehabMan I updated the plist for display override, but it seems that 3360x1890 is the highest I can select, I will call this a success, it's more than I even hoped to achieve! Only thing that remains is the Wireless card which I need to replace (and will on payday). After that, I'll have to fix...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

@RehabMan I clicked by mistake on the low resolution mode, and that did the trick!!! Now, I'll just have to modify and add to the display plist 4k resolution and it should be golden! Thank you man! If you wouldn't have told be to check the refresh rate I would have never stumbled on the low...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

Roger, will change to 128MB and extract new ACPI & patch them. Should be pretty fast, considering I already know exactly what to patch now. Will come back with updates as soon as I finish. Thank you.

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

Added a few custom resolutions, it now allows me to choose even higher "looks like" resolutions, sadly it does the same thing. Once I select the Default for Display (which is Looks like 1920x1080) screen goes black. Tried selecting the higher one as well, same story. Attached the plist as well...

[solved] Requesting help for Sierra installation on Dell Inspiron 15 7548 4k TouchScreen

Are you referring at scale-resolutions? (those that you talk about in https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/adding-using-hidpi-custom-resolutions.133254/) I did not, i could not figure out how to convert resolutions into the data required to enter, I'll start googling about it again. (read the...
