Upgrade processor from i5 2500k to 2700k or 3770k on same motherboard

No, it should not be the case. The difference between different sandy bridge (or even ivy bridge) processors isn't much as far as the OS is concerned.

Anyone got a Dual Xeon working on High Sierra?

I have a 2009 cMP with dual XEONs that works with all the recent (and not so recent) versions of MacOS. It's a bad joke and not a fair comparison. I would recommend a FirePro W7000 card to get things working initially. They're not bad video cards and work with the widest number of versions...

Anyone got a Dual Xeon working on High Sierra?

    Yes. It's a 2009 MacPro.

Upgrade processor from i5 2500k to 2700k or 3770k on same motherboard

If your motherboard/firmware supports the processor, it shouldn't be a problem. Research it. With processors that old, I'd get the fastest, newest i7 supported.

Crucial SSD MX300 can not be formatted

Stay away from Samsung QVO drives. They are SLOW.

Crucial SSD MX300 can not be formatted

I also have a number of Mushkin Pilot 1TB drives. None have failed me. Kingston A1000 SSDs for NVMe are affordable with decent speed. Faster than SATA. Slower than the pricey drives.

Crucial SSD MX300 can not be formatted

I've had good luck with Mushkin Reactors -- Get them while you can, they use the faster MLC chips but they are being phased out. Can't go wrong with Samsung if you can find a deal. Think I paid $135 for my last 1TB 860. I got an HP EX950 2TB that is great. I suspect the HP SATA drives will be...

Crucial SSD MX300 can not be formatted

"It's dead Jim!" I've owned 5 or 6 Crucial SSDs. 550s, mx100, bx100, mx200 -- ALL but the 550 are dead. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy Crucial SSDs IMHO.

What do you do when you've built a hackintosh sufficiently powerful enough to last the next 10 years?

You highlight another problem with these endeavors. At the time I built the X299 with i9-7980xe, it was a brand new processor and I had to get one from an intel employee (at a huge discount too). 2 years later and it's no big deal. Forget the cost savings, Much of the money I paid is gone...

I just cannot figure this out.

Yes, but I don't think there is an Nvidia driver that supports the 2080. I could be wrong.

Best Single Slot Low Profile GPU for a Kaby Lake Sierra build?

I put one of those in my daughter's tiny little macs. I removed the shroud and fans. Positioned 2 Noctua 92mm thin fans over it. The PC-TU100 case can accommodate a dual slot card but it can't really breath. so I mounted the 92mm fans in custom holes on the bottom of the case. Quiet, and...

I just cannot figure this out.

    LOL, Step 1 -- Remove the incompatible RTX2080. Step 2 -- Insert an AMD/ATI Vega64 video card. Step 3...

    The 4K Dell OptiMac - Core i7-4790 - AMD Radeon RX 570 - LG 4K 27" IPS Monitor

I've found my Display Port driven monitors work best with Vega or my W7000 card. Wonder if the WX5100/WX7100 wouldn't serve you better. Are you using a iMacPro1,1 Model Identifier or something else that relies completely upon the video card? Completely guessing here but video gets more...

    The 4K Dell OptiMac - Core i7-4790 - AMD Radeon RX 570 - LG 4K 27" IPS Monitor

My LG monitors only have 1 display port. THAT is often the real problem. 4k HDMI support is not so good.

Best Single Slot Low Profile GPU for a Kaby Lake Sierra build?

The Radeon Pro WX 4100 is your only choice as far as I know... Not cheap but a very nice card.
