For me this is both. Was not able to upgrade from Catalina to BS, so I opted to continually tinker and try to install it on a secondary NVMe. Haven't found the right combo yet.

And me at the 12 min remaining / quick second reboot. I do believe the 12 min remaining is a red herring as Catalina does the exact same thing on my system before a successful install. My system DSDT is attached. MSI Gaming Pro Carbon

I don’t think that #6 is a crash. I think it’s a normal advance to the next step. Catalina does the same thing for me when I reinstalled it recently. I have the same bootloop in Big Sur (also MSI X299, just different variant) from that point on.

Do you see any MSR settings in your bios? On my MSI X299 Carbon I have to disable MSR lock, but seems to work after that. If you have something like that, maybe disable, then change your config list to set AppleXcpmCfgLock to False? if you don't have that, then also set AppleCpuPmCfgLock to True...

Have looked at many, mixed and matched, can't seem to find the right combo and would love some advice. EFI attached (with ROM/MLB/etc removed as well as Resources to keep size down). My MSI AC Carbon has MSR lock disabled in BIOS and NVRAM has always appeared to be working. Above 4G is on. Have...

After several busy timeout (240s) on SAT1, it proceeds to a GUI briefly, then reboots again. Only macOS Installer option still (this boot is fast but now back in the same state as the video). Given the SAT1 timeout, I wonder if I need the Catalina SATA KEXT? The installer saw all of the drives...

After resetting NVRAM, I ran the installer as usual, at first reboot did the macOS Installer volume, played out like video above, fast time to reboot, selected macOS Installer again (still my only option), and now it seems like it’s trying to work through something more?

Having similar issue to JY. Have tried installing on separate drive, and fresh install, all lead me to the same weird boot loop. Worth noting, on first reboot from the installer, I don’t see “Macintosh HD”, but rather “macOS Installer”, so I select that as it’s my only option. Video (sorry for...
