Exacltly. Nobody is following a set definaition these days. Most people call devices by name. I don't own a mobile portable device, I own an iPad. I may own a laptop but if you ask it's a MacBook. If you say PC most people are going to think Windows desktop. If someone says they have a laptop...
I just ordered the Inateck yesterday on Amazon. I'm still on Yosemite but plan on testing it with both Yosemite and el cap with a second boot drive. I've never had good results with the onboard fl1009 on the gigabyte x79-up4 under Mavericks or Yosemite. Always drops the drive during transfers...
I also have a 290x that would only crash when using Aperture. Difference being I'm on the x79 platform. Any time I tried to make adjustments it would cause major artifacts and completely freeze the system, requiring a hard reset. It was especially bad with the sharpening tool, which made it...
Typically I get my stuff from newegg but I got the 280s and 290s off eBay. Only because Gigabyte's 3 year warranty is based on serial number and not the original owner's receipt like with other brands. Also, they had 2.5 years of warranty remaining.
Looks like this stands true. Fresh install of Yosemite and a single Gigabyte 290x OC. Waiting on 2nd 290x now.
Couldn't resist @ $250 each with native Yosemite support.
Sala medium:
1 - 270x = 1600
1 - 280x = 2400
1 - 290x = 2800
Roughly a 35% difference between the 270x and 280x. 15% difference between the 280x and 290x. Dual 290x scores 5600 while 3 280x score 7200.
For OpenCL the 280x is a really good choice since its so close to the 290x but only...
I originally had a Gigabyte 760... great for gaming but not so much for OpenCL.
Yea, the 280x cards are great for both FCPX and gaming. I stuck AIO water coolers on all three of mine and now they're performing perfectly. To top it off they're silent now too. The reason my trifire score was...
Update- I installed 10.9.5 and the score went up but one card is still running way too hot. I tried swapping the cards around but it boils down to the fact that the non-reference coolers just aren't designed to be sandwiched together. By taking out the middle card my bottom card now runs at 57c...
Just finished a new build with 3x Gigabyte 280x.... Luxmark is great but one of the GPU Dies is getting way to hot.... 90c. It's 15c hotter then the next hottest card. :(
For best mining performance you'll need to dual boot windows and mavericks. Mine in windows and boot into mavericks when needed. I minded alt-coin for for 2 months using mavericks and mac miner. Performance was 30% less then with windows. I didn't care since I was still making money (few...
I know what you're saying... I love the idea of a 20k geekbench with the 3930k but I'll stick to my z77+3770K for as long as I need to. As you know when you're rendering you can actually see results. Not just geeking out on the numbers.
I'm guessing it's the 10.9.2 driver. When I switched to HD 4000 graphics I was able to boot with both Gigabyte 270x 4GB cards installed but LuxMark 2.1 recognized the cards as "AMD Radeon HD Pitcairn PRO Prototype" whereas before it recognized the cards as D300. With the new driver the...
ahh.. sorry about that. I see on page 7 you mention using 7870. Looks like Stingray454 has working dual 280x but would be interested to know if he's using 10.9.2 and what type of chipset (z77 vs x79, etc). The 7870 may seem more like the 270x but I couldn't get my dual 270x to work with 10.9.2.
