Guick note for those that don't have windows installed and aren't familiar with creating a DOS boot device: I just tested the EFI FwUpdLcl tool and it works like a charm through the Clover EFI shell. To use it:
Drop FwUpdLcl.efi somewhere on your EFI partition
Reboot and select Shell in Clover...
Awesome, glad to hear it worked for you! I was on 9.5.13.I-Don't-Remember (go Acer! You're only 32 revisions behind). I'm kinda curious at what point Intel fixed the bug, but like you said, Intel is really secretive about the whole thing.
I'm just glad we finally solved this problem. Only...
Problem solved!
I had some more time to look into this problem the other day and I finally came up with a solution. I'm not sure why I didn't look into this before because it seems obvious, but nonetheless here it is:
Update your ME Firmware
We knew the issue resides in the ME itself, not OS...
If you're interested, I updated your write disable method for 10.10.3. Well, at least it appears to do the same thing yours does, I didn't actually analyze yours :P. It works for me and someone else fine, albeit I still have the brightness issue. Another tester doesn't report this bug.
New Patch
You should have an ssdt.aml file that you generated with some program to get PM working. If not, see this guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-laptop-support/146870-guide-native-power-management-laptops.html
Follow the instructions under "Custom SSDT for CPU" to generate the SSDT. Like...
While this might not have anything to do with it, do you have your power management ssdt in place?
Otherwise I would go for it in clover. The warning in the Wiki is because wrong values will make things go awry. Your computer is already using the wrong values so you should be fine entering the...
I just double checked and yep, it does. Or, at least it doesn't happen all the time anymore. It happened extremely rarely so it's hard to test. I apply the patch again and bam, brightness issues.
Yet again, after a few days of testing and some tinkering, I found an issue with this patch. Every time it wakes from sleep, I have low screen brightness and html5 video surfaces do not work for about 2 minutes (I didn't test Quicktime or VLC in this time). If I let it go, the brightness will...
Rehabman,
The powerd error is normal when using your branch of the Kozlek FakeSMC, but it can be patched by adding the following key into the "Keys" section of Info.plist (at least for me):
<key>ACID</key>
<array>
<string>ch8*</string>
<data>
ut7DNVAFEGM=
</data>
</array>...
You mentioned earlier that it might be related, but you weren't sure. Just confirming that it wasn't :P
This patch works wonders! I have no idea how you figure this stuff out; I'd love to learn how to pull code apart like you do if I ever get some free time. I really appreciate all your work...
Rehabman/everyone else reading this:
I moved to FakePCIID so I could update to 10.10.2 and still have working graphics. While it works great, it doesn't fix this issue :P. The wait for a fix continues haha
