Z790 ProArt Creator (sorry, can't remember BIOS version, but whatever it came with a month or so ago), 64GB (2x32) G.Skill Z5 DDR5, Ventura 13.5.2, XMP enabled. BIOS shows RAM running at 6000, as does "About this Mac". I did nothing special with either BIOS or OpenCore.
First, to @CaseySJ thanks for the response!
Appreciate the input. As I was off shopping for components tonight, I discovered that the Z690 is, indeed, more expensive and much harder to source than the Z790. I was just coming back here to ask if it was usable in this build. I compared the specs...
Hey, Casey, thanks for this great Guide. As mentioned in the Z390 Designaire thread a couple days ago, I've developed the itch to build a newer Hackintosh. This one looks like a good candidate. I have a couple of questions before starting the component procurement process, however. Hoping the...
Probably a minor thing (victory?), @CaseySJ but wanted to report I've succesfully upgraded Big Sur to Ventura. I haven't actually done much to my Hackintosh in quite some time, so this was "big doings" for me.
Steps executed:
Performed a full, bootable, external backup using CCC. First one...
Just a quick note to say "THANKS!", again, @CaseySJ for this awesome guide (and others!). Succesfully used HackinDROM to upgrade OC. It overwrote my custom USB port settings, but that was an easy fix (because I followed your guide and had a proven-good bootable external drive!). Updated OSX to...
Not sure if it's confirmation bias, just me, or what...but Big Sur seems snappier than Catalina did. And the graphics (well, the text on screen) are just a bit sharper. I'm going with confirmation bias ;)
Yes and Yes. I just re-did both, to be sure. Same hang point in OC boot.
EDIT: Scratch that, missed the XHCI Handoff. Fixed. Booted via OC just fine. Now to copy my DSDT over to the OC EFI partition so I can get my USB ports back. Then figure out how to upgrade to 0.6.4. Once that is...
Hi, @CaseySJ, the BIOS update to F9i went just fine. Several reboots, everything worked. I decided to tackle the transition from Clover to OpenCore today. I followed this guide (0.6.3 mini-guide). Downloaded the .zip file, copied to the USB drive (freshly erased and reformatted per...
Any issues I should be aware of if I update BIOS (Z390 Designare) to F9i? Still running Clover, as I haven't mustered the motivation to switch to OC so I can move to Big Sur. Yet.
I was down a different rabbit hole before I saw your reply. But, it was a productive rabbit hole excursion! I opened the DSDT to verify the USB port configs hadn't changed. They hadn't. However, I quickly realized the issue.
A couple weeks ago I had to replace a failed radiator fan on my CPU...
Kind of an interesting problem cropped up, @CaseySJ, with my USB. I have a powered (90w) 12-port USB hub connected via USB-C on the motherboard. Previously, everything worked without issue. Suddenly, the only thing Catalina recognizes as connected to that hub is my LaCie external drive. My...
I don't use Kext Utility, preferring to do it the old fashioned, CLI way. I've always run `sudo kextcache -i /` after chmod/chown the /S*/L*/E* and /L*/E* directories, though. Is kextcache command not needed?
@CaseySJ hate to wave you off a second time, but...I think I solved the problem with the iGPU.
After capturing video of the boot stop when iGPU was enabled in BIOS, it looked to me like a memory issue. I decided to update the EFI memory driver from the "Optional Extras" in the fresh Catalina...
Clover is v5120, Lilu v1.4.6, WEG v1.4.1
Deleted 0x0 from the IntelGFX box, no change in behavior
Running Catalina, upgraded from Mojave yesterday following the mini-guide here.
I don't have any Hackintosh kexts in /L*/E*, having removed them following the Catalina mini-guide:
