Suggestion for a tweak of the BIOS.
Problem: Front USB port causes random BSOD when drive inserted on Windows or a system freeze on Mac. Also on Mac, system shuts down before fully loading when USB drive is present or while booting from USB on front ports.
Fix: Change USB Legacy Support to...
I had issues with the CPU always being 3.89ghz in Mavericks (which would be Turbo even though it was disabled) while it was correctly represented as 3.5ghz in Windows (when Turbo was off) with f8m -- for me, f8k has been better and more stable.
Turbo was disabled, but with f8m mavericks always recognized the CPU as 3.89... I also tried AutoTune to fix the fans, but it was never as nice as the default f8k and there was some sort of bug in one of the startup programs that AutoTune ran that caused Windows to hang. So... I'm back to f8k...
After trying the new beta bios, f8m, I've decided to return to f8k. I had issues with fans being too loud on f8m as well as processor speed fluctuations in Mavericks. Multipler shifted from 8 to 32 in HW monitor every second. Some benchmark improvements, but overall I also had occasional...
I've flashed over to the new beta bios -- performance improvements in Mavericks. I went to 101fps in Cinebench! Mavericks shows my CPU as 3.89ghz -- Windows still as 3.5ghz, no difference in performance that I see so far. Fans on my case are considerably more noisy (my major gripe at the...
No problem, gleggie-- trying to give back to the forum because the help has been invaluable for me!:D
I have my system up and running now. After reinistalling Mavericks from a fresh copy from Apple, I have solved my issues. Currently running dual boot Windows 7 64 and Mavericks 10.9.1...
Shorts has -v mode enabled on chimera which is why you are seeing the text. If it annoys you, you can change it by editing the org.chameleon.Boot.plist located in /Extra on your system drive -- just double click it to open in a text editor and then save. Delete the Kernel Flags entry for -v...
Good question about the power managment. I can confirm that the Apple Store will let you make a USB copy of Mavericks. I was just there yesterday; a few others were doing it. If anyone is going to do that, all you need to do is drag the Installer App onto your USB, then drag that into your App...
I've installed Mavericks! So far, no freezes or kernel panics. I am about to run MultiBeast. I couldn't get Chimera to boot for me into Mavericks (it just kept spinning after Apple Logo), so I'm using the latest Chameleon build which works for me. Otherwise, I'll be tweaking with MultiBeast...
I wanted to try using iBoot and the Mavericks Install Image that was extracted from the Apple Store. Earlier, I extracted it, but my Mac died which is why I'm building a Hackintosh now. Anyway, I set the beta bios as you recommended, but after running iBoot, it hangs on the Apple boot screen...
Thanks! This is my first Mac on Intel build, so I'm excited! So far, it has gone smoothly. After I installed the hardware, the machine posted on the first try which was what I was expecting from Gigabyte. I just flashed to the beta bios you recommended, F8k, and I'm making the initial bios...
