I used Clover Configurator. Magic Wand SMBIOS screen. After it generated everything, I copied all my serial numbers, etc. and pasted over the top. Saved. Rebooted.
Black screen went away. Nvidia drivers kicked in and I have 4k. Verified my iMessage still works.
SOLVED...for me.
Problem is I made two changes and I'm not sure which one did the trick, but since it works I'm not looking back.
1st change: In clover, under SSDT I now have "Drop OEM" = True. (I think this did it for me...)

I'm pretty lucky, have everything working on my system and now I'm working out the annoyances. I could use some help to track down why I'm getting messages in my system.log every 15 seconds.
