Graphics
nVidia GeForce GTX 960
Mac

Classic Mac

Mobile Phone
  1. Android
  2. iOS
So, I have a laptop - the Envy 15-J121TX Will it be hackable?

Specs:

- 4th Gen Haswell Intel Core i5 CPU (Core i5 4200M)
- Intel HD Graphics 4600
- 8GB DDR3 RAM
- 750GB Platter HDD
- nVidia GeForce GT 740M 2GB dedicated (possibly using nVidia OPTIMUS switcher)
- IDT HD Audio 111D:76E0
- Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260
- Windows 7 WITH CSM
- External Mac Compatible Wifi Dongle
- Realtek PCIe Family Controller (RTL8111.kext?)
- Synaptics SMBus ClickPad

Could you tell me:

I) If the laptop IS hackable
II) How Hard would it be to hack it
III) Could it run Yosemite

I have tried getting mavericks to install, that worked, no sound, cpu management or display brightness. I will need a bit of help as I'm new to hackintoshing a PC.

I. Yes,
II. not that hard, it is likely similar to the Envy i had: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...-locked-msrs-hp-envy-15-j063cl-i7-4700mq.html, DSDT repo: https://github.com/RehabMan/HP-Envy-DSDT-Patch
III. yes.

Suggestion... use Clover: http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...oting-os-x-installer-laptops-clover-uefi.html

Hopefully the trackpad is not just SMBUS and supports PS2 as well...

Yeah, the trackpad does support PS/2. I'm really really (really) new to this so I would appreciate if you could explain why I need Clover (I used to use Chameleon) and what the risk is with making the laptop hackintoshable

The advantages of Clover are documented in the link I provided. No need for me to repeat them here.

Not sure what you mean by 'risk'?

I have a PS3 and this laptop. the 'risk' is how badly could i screw this up?

EDIT: I don't have a Mac to use, so I need to get this right first time.

Make an OEM recovery USB. Make a backup of your data. Then no risk as you can always start over.

If you're new at this kind of stuff, you'll likely screw it up several times.

Not possible. I wiped this laptop to put a vl copy of windows on it (got 7 enterprise for NZD$15 through my school)

EDIT: Who cares about windows? I've been wanting to do this for a while now and i have all the VL keys and ISOs backed up
