Ok so I've looked around on the forums and can't seems to find a answer to my question. I got a hd caddy for my 4530s installed everything worked. However when I boot boot down from windows the computer doesn't shut all the way down making have to hold the power button to shut it down. Is there a fix for this will I damage my comp by doing this all the time?

Hmm.. I use a caddy all the time and haven't run into this. Perhaps it depends on the specific device you have in the caddy (ie. what HDD). I have the original HDD in my caddy (I think it is a 320GB Hitachi).

He'd caddy question!

Is the 500 gig that came with the 4530s

BTW, I'm not really sure what you mean by "boot down from Windows"...

And is that a fresh Windows install or the garbage HP ships to you?

That's a weird one.

HD caddy question!SOLVED!!!!!!!

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!! the caddy was for a older model probook. so i had to take it apart and remove the 3rd pin on the motherboard of the caddy! shuts down and restart like normal no more hanging yay me!!!!!!! So if ur looking at the motherboard the sata plug not the plug to hd,the 3rd pin from the right on second plug remove pin and all is well hope this helps anyone with same problem!!!!!:headbang:

He'd caddy question!

I just wanted to add that I purchased an HDD Caddy off of ebay from China, I believe, and there's a white switch next to the SATA controller on the inside that corrects sleep, shutdown, and other issues specifically for HP, Lenovo, and some other laptop brands it's compatible with. Sounds much easier than what you had to do Him1st! (it has a blue LED activity light which shows when the drive is in use - though it's on ALL THE TIME and simply blinks when in use)

Hopethat helps some other people here as there were no instructions included with the HDD caddy to explain this (I emailed the manufacturer directly)

Can you post a picture looking at the MB connector like this?

The verticals line are to be aligned, but the editor removes spaces, so I cannot do that.

I think I need this fix. Thnks.

This thread really helped out! I didn't even know I had this problem (haven't even booted into Windows since I upgraded to SSD in the DVD bay.) But when I booted Windows today, I had the same problems with it not sleeping or shutting down. (Ironic problem, since usually with a Hackintosh the opposite happens and it's OSX that has flaky sleep/shutdown problems!)

I bought a cheap $10 caddy off Amazon because Prime shipping let me get it in 2 days. It wasn't directly for HP Probook, but I figured they must all be similar, so it was worth a shot.

For reference for anyone having this problem, I snapped a photo of the white switch next to the SATA connector. Once I pushed it in the arrow direction toward the SATA connector, no more problem with Windows!

Also just a snap of the caddy with my original face plate off my ProBook's DVD drive. I love that the look is still the same.
