Hi guys,

I have searched internet up and down so many times already, just to find the same articles all arround. I can't believe but I think there's no USB WiFi Adapter available for Mac, having no problems in OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks.

I'm not talking about Airport integrated, that's really far away from everything I found. I would be happy just for any solution wich works and have proper drivers for OS X 10.9.2. Everything I found have latest drivers at least 1 year old and last OS officialy supported is 10.8.x. Maybe some of them work with Mountain Lion I haven't tried.

I tried 3 different already and none of them is without problems. Basically all based on various Realtek Chipset requiring Realtek's Wireless Utility to operate. Utility from Reatek website doesn't work at all and modified utility from D-Link which is supprisingly not available from American Websites (just from Europe and Asia) may be because it doesn't work too much anyway. It works somehow, but utility hangs system up on shotdowns cause it's simply unable to terminate it's process. It brings your system really down on wake up from sleep or when dongle is unpluged from USB port. I think this is not acceptable so I can't use it.

Looks like even Apple doesn't know about any USB WiFi solution for Mac. May be because it doesn't exist. They just offer mobile internet from cellular operators.

So unfortunatelly I gave up with USB WiFi for last version of OS X. I would be very happy if anyone can post succesfull solution. Have great day guys and happy Hackintoshing.

I'm using both: EDIMAX EW-7811UN, Bolse BO-N1557 with my Lenovo U430 (have not cracked the BIOS yet to remove WiFi whitelist).

They both work without issue using the latest drivers from the Realtek site.

Ok guys, taking on U... and I'll go for EDIMAX EW-7811UN to give it a try, hope can get it easily somewhere from internet.

I just tried WiFi USB from TrendNet also with outdated Realtek's Wireless Utility and I sent my system down. While trying to uninstall those drivers I realized my USB Ethernet was affected by the same shutdown, sleep and wakeup problems, nearly all the network was screwed up by that driver.

So maybe just warning for the other, better avoid following USB WiFi Adapters especially in combination with OSX 10.9.2 Mavericks.

- DISREGARD -

TrendNet TEW-649UB v1.0R

This driver from TrendNet's website sent whole my USB network down. Although there's TrendNet TEW-648 recommended at macbraker website. But can't get that one anywhere.

D-Link DWA-171 vA1
Same problems with sleep, wake ups and shutdowns, fortunately with those drivers rest of your USB network stays unaffected.

TP-Link TL-WN725N Ver:2.0
Doesn't work at all, unsupported RTL Chipset. Not recognized by RTL's Wireless Utility. Fortunately easy to uninstall. And of course doesn't affect anything.

The point is to use kernel flag -gux_defer_usb2 (brilliant RehabMan's note from post #10) to force USB2 devices to be handled by AppleUSBEHCI instead of GenericUSBXHCI.

I'dlike to confirm that
EDiMAX EW-7811Un works well with 10.9.2 Mavericks (Realtek chipset RTL8188CUS) using official 10.9 driver from EDiMAX website.

http://www.edimax.com/en/support_detail.php?pd_id=347&pl1_id=&pl2_id=

Also TP-Link TL-WN725N Ver:2.0 works well too (Realtek chipset RTL8188EUS) surprisingly with this same driver. This driver have support for both. ;)

I would say both of them is very good choice if U need USB WiFi, both of them are nano USBs so size-friendly, they won't bother you even plugged in Ultrabooks USB port and won't affect it's mobility.

The only problem is that same as with many other USB WiFi, I have to give up Airport support, and use Realtek's Wireless Utility, to handle this WiFi USB Dongle. It's good to keep utility running especially after wake up from sleep, other WiFi wont re-connect.

Have good evening everybody.

EDIMAX EW-7811Un Still Having Problems.

Hi guys,

so I got this EW-7811Un with EDiMAX's Driver for OS X 10.9 (which reports btw. that "Driver is not from identified developer, but will still be loaded.") that doesn't meter, but I'm still having problems with Shut Downs and sleep mode.

When I do Shut Down (or Restart) with EW-7811Un connected, after Mavericks closes everything down, screen turns off (black), keyboard backlit remains on and laptop is stacked exactly 30s, then either Shuts Down or Restarts, just by its self.

Fatal problem is Sleep Mode. When in 1st state just Display Sleeps, it's ok, I can wake everything up with any key, mouse, touchpad, whatever, everything continue to work normally. When in 2nd state Computer goes Sleep. Then it is problem. With EW-7811Un connected, it's the end of story. Unable to Wake Up any way. Just have to press Power Button for 4s to make "Hard Shutdown".

Any advice, or suggestion guys, please.... I'm almost getting mad with these USB WiFis with Realtek's chipsets and their Wireless Utility. I don't know where this problem comes from. I don't have this problem with any other USB device. Just with these WiFi dongles.

Thanx and have good day, bye.

Probably an issue with your USB configuration. What drivers/flags are you using?

I'm not using any special flags, take a look my config.plist, please.

With drivers, U mean drivers in EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI ???

CLOVER Manolis$ ls -la /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI
total 180
drwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 1024 6 May 10:31 .
drwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 1536 8 May 08:56 ..
-rwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 4096 6 May 10:31 ._HFSPlus.efi
-rwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 21152 23 Mar 11:19 FSInject-64.efi

-rwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 5120 23 Mar 11:19 OsxFatBinaryDrv-64.efi

I gues drivers32UEFI don't matter, but anyway.

CLOVER Manolis$ ls -la /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/drivers32UEFI
total 74
drwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 512 2 May 01:42 .

-rwxrwxrwx 1 Manolis staff 21568 23 Mar 11:17 VBoxHfs-32.efi

And I use
GenericUSBXHCI_1.2.7

Thanx for help.

I have experienced the same. When i shutdown the systems needs some time (black screen at this time). But i dont really care. :headbang:

//EDIT: The Wifi stick is plugged into my USB3 port. Maybe its related to the driver. I dont know....
