I have the same problem after update to 10.9.0 from 10.8.4 on 4530s.
I can use Camera Control or Skype but camera isnt working with apple app like Photobooth or Facetime

i got so frustrated with this issue, i ended up buying a $7.99 app to fix the problem. It's called Webcam Settings and using the backlight compensation settings i was able to totally fix my HackBook Pro's cam perfectly. FaceTime and Photo Booth are back in action.

there is most likely some better, more cost effective ways to go about solving this issue

Hi, Just install the cameracontrol from pro book installer, reboot
open photobooth or FaceTime THEN open camera control app witch you have installed and it will work
But anyone have fixed this without going through camera control ?

please correct me if I am wrong here but there seems to be two seperate problems with the cameras.
first problem sets the camera to be almost black so that you cant see yourself in the camera apps.. with this problem you can open cameracontrolapp and adjust the settings then they will stay adjusted in your other apps like facetime and photobooth
second problem the camera works just fine in some apps (only one I have had it work was camera control app) however facetime never shows video and photobooth just gives the spinning wheel forever.. also I have tested in hangouts with no video being sent. with everyone that has posted this we all have one thing in common ... no serial number being displayed for the camera. almost like there is a requirement for a serial number to run the app... obviously there is a driver working since it does work just fine in camera controlapp...
is there a way to add a serial number using something like IOjones. ??
