I installed unibeast V1.4 on a USB dongle and the "chimera boot screen" looks like the tutorail pics with a USB dongle with eyes on it and the apple mac icon on the bottom of the sreen named "USB" as I named it that.

I installed unibeast V3.1 on a USB dongle and the chimera boot screen looks like a red chimera icon (not a USB dongle shaped deal) just like a tomato with eyes on it and the bottom of the screen has the apple logo with "USB" named to it as I named it that.

Neither version will boot to the apple installer

I have been reading for months and have no idea what I am doing and am ready to sell all this gear and move back to an apple.

Attempting to install Lion on the following brand new rig:

Gigabyte ga x79s UP5
2x 8GB corsair Vengeance 1600 RAM
2x 4GB corsair 1866 RAM
OCZ Vector 256 SSD
3930K CPU
EVGA GTX 770 SC w/ACX Coolers GPU
Corsair RM 720 PSU
Corsair H100i

at either unibeast 1.4 or 3.1 I use several different boot flags and none will get me into the OSX installer. I can only get to the white screen with grey apple and spinning thing below the apple.

The installer never comes up.

The machine needed its BIOS updated with a super duper old PCIE powered GPU installed in it BEFORE I could even get to the BIOS settings with the EVGA GTX 770 plugged in. Finding that out literally took 6 weeks of RMA's on almost every part in the entire machine , returns and reading. No joke.

The only thing I can think of is how to I force my hackintosh to boot with the GTX 770? The card is reletively newer than the MOBO although the MOBO BIOS have been updated. Others have had success with this card as well.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi Mesa,

I may say Impressive rig you have there.

Running a Hackintosh ain't for the faint of heart, it comes bundled with lots of stress and less hair.

I see you attempting to install OS X Lion... You are better off trying to run OS X Mountain Lion or Mavericks on this machine. I think support for the X79 only starts at like 10.7.5, if I am not mistaken.

Unibeast 3.0.1 would be the best to use in my opinion.

The GTX 770 should work on this board, irrespective of whether the card is newer, since the boards has PCI E x16 3.0 support.

What bios version are you running?
What are your bios settings in relation to overclocking, EHCI/XHCI, CPU EIST, Intel VT-d?

What flags are you using with the chimera?
Why are you trying to install OS X Lion, and not Mountain Lion or Mavericks?

@ergot, his running Sandy Bridge E, if his using the 3930K.

Hi Mesha
I have the UP4 mob but it's the same one as yours
I succeeded to get to the boot and install but my install working
Very slow like a slow motion , opening a folder or even mouse move is very slow
I had the same boot issues as you and finally I got a solution
There is a mach_kernel patched for ive b CPU , google it, replace it on your USB and you can boot, it's not related to your GPU, but you need to add GraphicsEnabler=Yes in boot for your GPU...

So physically find "mach_kernel patched for ive b CPU" on google. right? I am assuming this is a .kext file?

Then open up my unibeast USB drive, and add this .kext to the USB dongle, then boot and it should work?

I am sorry but this is all pretty new to me can you spell it out any better? Spoon feed me!

:)

Is there a file on the USB dongle that I need to find and then replace or merely add the file you mentioned to the usb drive? Where should I put the file?

My pro Tools 10 software is only compatible up to Lion. Do I need mountain lion?

Also where can i find this file to do the install?

I think you have suffered from so much bad advice. If your ProTools needs to run on Lion, then that surly is your priority.

  • UniBeast 1.4? o_O
  • EVGA GTX 770 - Requires a minimum of 10.8.5 to work - 10.9 is better
  • X79 I think needs to run on 10.8, it might just run on 10.7.5

I suggest that you have a clear think about priorities and come to a decision about how to move forward.

hi Gaart,
its been 5 days that im trying to make 10.9 working on my UP4 board F4 firmware but without success :(
i tried many things but every time it fails...I have the 4930k cpu and i used the patched kernel the USB boot fine and the install proceed (taking longer than other builds i made), the system running very slow like a slagish movements, is that related to CPU/BIOS configuration? its drive me crazy already...
currently the 10.9 is installed on Samsung 840 EVO SSD, maybe the SSD is the problem??

Ok, I'm still not able to get to the installer. I can't get any confirmations on the motherboard with it bios revision. I believe that the F4 bois may be my issue. I have used L, ML, and mavericks all seem to fail with either a black screen or the apple screen with no gear. I've used many flags -v -x GraphicsEnabler=no PCI=0x2000 or 3000 cpus=1, still no installer.

Im not an expert, but this seems like a graphics issue, because the rig is compatible, did you follow the very instructions on the beginning of this thread?

I remember something related to a modified kernel/voodoo sync kext, but I know this is after installing...

Its a while since ive got my x79s rig running...

Try
Code:
-v cpu=1 npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=Yes USBBusFix=Yes

*Ensure that EHCI and XHCI is enabled in bios.
*Try between GE=yes/no, not sure which will work for you
