This is a hardware issue with gigabyte Z77 and Z87 motherboards, there are quite a few reports of this on the gigabyte message boards, regardless of the OS installed. I had the same problem, by disabling EIST my uptime's went from 1 day to about 3 days, but after replacing the motherboard with an ASRock, the issue is completely resolved.

Silly question on my part, but...
I can't seem to find the manual for the motherboard...

Is that the layout for the RAM slots? _1,_3,_2,_4? with, "_1" being closest to the processor?

Same issues here.

DDR3_4
DDR3_2 (x)
DDR3_3
DDR3_1 (x)

to

DDR3_4 (x)
DDR3_2
DDR3_3 (x)
DDR3_1

it SEEMS to work.. i'm running with purposely Sleeps from 24/36 hours

It has still not frozen? :)

everything seems working fine.. no more freezes... (i hope )

only 2 minor "bugs" (don't know how to call them)

1) i5 4570 doesn boost over 3.4 Ghz [it should reach 3.6]
2) stuck on iTunes 11.1.2 didn't even try to upgrade, last time I had to reinstall the whole OS

Anyway after a clean reinstall even iTunes 11.1.3 works.

no freezes at all.. I suggest anybody to change your RAM's slot, check the voltage,
run a test with memtest 4.22 and last but not least: set smbios to MacPro3,1 any other configuration i tried fails for some RAM issues.. I think some s*** about ECC that's not properly loaded..

Keep me updated!

Thank you se much! I am trying it now :D

OK, i'm a Newbie..
OK, i'm not a Computer Engineer (just studying for Mechanical :p )
OK, there wasn't any manual attached to my mobo...

BUT

in Italy, my mother taught me to count like this:

1 as FIRST
2 as SECOND
3 as THIRD
etc.. etc..

maybe in taiwan someone doesn't count in this way!

now everything should work properly!

EDIT: 1h and no freezes.. (but still not rejoice)

I haven't noticed any 'random hangs' in a while, especially since i moved my ram models from 1&3 to 2&4.

However, the computer will freeze, every time, if I try to play any of the movies I purchase from iTunes - it doesn't matter if I open the movies in Quicktime, either. All my other media files play fine.
